My little "blue" silkie. I think "she" might be a "he".

Are you going to keep him? Last year, one of the three chicks I raised turned out to be a roo...I was really sad to have to give him away. But our neighbors didn't want to be woken up at 4 am , for some weird reason.

Chicks being introduced to the flock

Wow, cool! Now I want to take a video of my three chicks meeting the flock. *Hopefully* it won't be a video of three chicks being pecked a lot...And by the way, your hens are really gorgeous!

    Hot weather treats

That sounds like a good idea; it gets really hot here so I'll make sure to try it! Isn't the sugar bad for them though? I guess in small quantities it must be okay. Thanks for the tip!

Getting a Brinsea Ecoglow 20 Chick Brooder

Last night I had a fire scare so now I am going to get a Brinsea eco-glow. http://www.brinsea.com/prod-EcoGlow_Chick_Brooder-239.aspx The thing is, I need it fast. Does anyone know how long it takes to receive their Eco-glow from the Brinsea website? I'm in Arcadia (91006) if that helps. Also...

Just got three newbies today! Super adorable pics! Enjoy :)

Awwww..So cute! Last year I got three chickens, in the exact same breeds as yours. They all turned out really sweet, except the australorp turned out to be a rooster, so we had to give him away. Good luck with yours!

Expanding the flock; need your help!

I had an Australorp who was really friendly and was really good looking. (Their feathers really shine, wow.) Rhode Island Reds is another good choice. I had one who was friendly. Finally, I had a Golden Laced Wyandotte who was friendly and layed lots of large eggs. If you want them to be...

How is your flock holding up in this heat. Any tips for me I have a lot of very feathered breeds.

I don't have first-hand experience (so don't hold me to what I say!), but where I live it gets pretty hot so I was reading about how to keep chickens cool. Of course, plenty of water and plenty of shade is a must. I've also seen people saying they leave misters out for their chickens. Another...

Adding Young Standards to Older Bantams

I have three one year old silkies, and I also have three three day old regular chicks. When should I put them together? I tried searching this, but the results say how to add regular chickens and regular chickens, or young silkies to older standards. My questions are: Should I add them when...

Adding One Chick to Three Older Chicks

I have three chicks who are about three days old. However, I also wanted an australorp, which the feed store didn't have. They said that I could get one next week, but then it would be one week younger than the other three. Is that okay? Or should I just wait until next year and get an...

Addding more chicks to single chicken

I had three chickens, but one turned out to be a rooster so we had to give him away. Then, our neighbor's dog killed one of the other ones, so now there is only one chicken. Will she be okay on her own? Otherwise, we were thinking about getting three more chicks. Would that be okay, or would...

Do I really HAVE to cook my keets?

Well, I'm also new, so I may have just been lucky with my chicks (because this isn't a system-it's something that I've only done once), but the guy at the feed store said just to use a desk light, which I did, and it was often about 85-90 ish. My chicks are 6 weeks old now, and seem fine, so I...
