I live in a semi rural area in the Albany OR area and have 2 geese that guard my flock. They have been developing the lots of land surrounding us and the geese are becoming a nuisance to my husband and new neighbors.
They are 8 months old and were straight run when purchased from Meyer...
But why is it happening all of a sudden? They have been out sleeping alone in their run since they were 6 weeks old. Is it just because they are nearing maturity at the same time as breeding season? I think one of them is trying to court me (he does the head bob near me).
They have free access to pellets all night, from one of those grandpa feeders that they step on to get food. The coop is attached to a run that gets closed at night, but we don't close the coop door. Our trail cam picks them up pacing around the run for awhile before they sleep for 1-2 hours at...
I have two 8-month old geese that are definitely hormonal now that spring is nearing. They are doing this thing the past week where they will scream 3 times in succession at night. At first, we thought it was a predator, but the sound of the scream is more forlorn. I raised both of these guys...
Greetings!
I have two 10 week old Roman tufted who live on 1/8th acre fenced orchard/pasture. I have finally finished the medicated chicken feed for my chickens and now have set down the feeder so that the geese and chickens can both eat from it. Before this, I would only feed the geese Flock...
I have five 13 week old chickens and a pair 7 week old ganders. The chickens (free range) are still on Start n Grow (18% protein) and the geese free range on grass but get a cereal bowl sized portion of Flock Raiser (20% protein) at nighttime. The chickens have their food on a ledge away from...
I bought a 5 lb bag of flockraiser crumbles to start my goslings, but now I've been mowing strips of our lawn for grass supplement. They are 2 weeks old. They can go through a 2 gallon bucket of grass clippings a day. I probably have a week left the flockraiser, but can I just start feeding them...
I have 2 roman tufted goslings 11 days old, Romulus and Remus. They are imprinted on my husband and I, mainly me since I provide them with the most care. If they are awake and can't see us, they start to squeak and squeak and squeak. We have been slowly introducing them to the outside a few...
I have 2 Roman Tufted goslings that are 10 days old and have been using the old bath towel on shavings technique for their bedding. My research suggests you can put them on shavings after the first week. Removing the towel twice a day is really getting difficult. I tried no towel today and they...
Greetings all,
I have 2 Roman Tufted goslings in the brooder right now and planning for them when they finally go outside. They will be staying in a 12'x12' run until they are large enough to free range, but want a place for them to be cozy if its windy in the run. I found a dog kennel on CL...
I have 1 1/2 week old chicks that I want to give treats. I placed a curbside pickup order from Coastal Farms for extra chick feed, a bag of chick grit, and other stuff for the house due to the social distancing rules in Oregon.
Anyways, they goofed and gave me regular poultry grit instead. Def...
Greetings all,
I'm a first time owner of 5 bright little chicks (from MPC) and noticed this morning that my speckled sussex chick has been picking at the base of her leg. For reference, I use pine shavings as bedding and keep them in a 55 gal trough that I deeply disinfected. She's eating and...
Hi all,
I'm planning on getting the Ecoglow 600 heat plate(the smallest model) for brooding my 5 chicks this spring. In early summer, I'm getting 2 Roman Tufted goslings. Will this plate be adequate? I am very adverse to getting a heat lamp for safety reasons.
