    Chick combs

Thank you! I know I need to be patient and wait and see 😆

    Chick combs

I’ll try to get better photos tomorrow, but here’s a couple more of the gray chicks. I’m thinking that the one with the darker comb also has thicker legs.

    Chick combs

Hi all, these three barnyard mix chicks for hatched on June 10, so coming in on 3 weeks old. I realize it’s super early (and they may have all different breed mothers) but I’ve noticed one chick has a distinctly redder comb over the past few days. Any thoughts on sex of these chicks at this...

    Barnyard mix large white rooster

Thanks! I was trying to figure out what type of comb he has.

    Barnyard mix large white rooster

This boy is 8 months old and a barnyard mix. He is large and friendly, and has the slightest cream coloring on his back. Can anyone guess what breeds he may have come from?

    Sick/dying roosters

Thank you all! My AC died last night. 😢 I do feed layer food. But the majority of their diet is from free ranging

    Sick/dying roosters

Thank you. Never treated for parasites except dusting coop floor with DE. My first rooster was vaccinated but the Cemani I got from a fellow backyard chicken owner who probably did not.

    Sick/dying roosters

I lost my flock rooster a couple months ago to a weird, wasting illness. I checked all through these forums and couldn’t find anything described that fit. He was a year old, perfectly healthy and had fathered a clutch of ten eggs that hatched. He suddenly stopped crowing, then seemed lethargic...

Broody turns on one of her own

She has already laid two eggs, that I know of. She focused intensely on this one chick and wouldn’t tolerate him in the coop. Fine with the others. As far as I know he was okay, but she did peck him.

Broody turns on one of her own

My broody hatched 10 chicks and had been a devoted, fierce mother up until today. Chicks are nine weeks old and I’ve been letting Mama Sith and her brood free range successfully with the rest of the flock every day for the past week. They are in their own coop at night. Tonight when I gathered...

    Barnyard mix

Hi all, these chicks are 7 weeks old, all hatched by a broody Orpington. Only one (black and white chick) is her own. My rooster is a Buff Brahma. The other eight chicks are full Brahmas and Easter Egger/Brahma crosses. I’d love to know if any ideas can be made on their sex. Their combs seem to...

Broody and chicks won’t leave the nest box

I’m sorry for your loss! I had read something warning of that and use a chick waterer.

Broody and chicks won’t leave the nest box

I thought that I read sometime on here that the chipmunk color pattern on an Easter Egger chick indicated a pullet. I hope so.

Broody and chicks won’t leave the nest box

Really? Can you tell this soon? 😊

Broody and chicks won’t leave the nest box

Thank you all so much! This morning I moved them all into a dog crate while I cleaned out the “condo.” out of 11 eggs, 10 hatched! I’m amazed.
