It's certainly going to be up to you and how many chickens you have. You'll find everything from nipple waterers in a 2 liter jug to 5 gallon buckets with an elaborate auto-fill method.
Me personnally, I have 2 5-gallon buckets. One in the coop and one in the run. Each has 3 nipples on it...
Thanks for the words of wisdom. I mounted a fan in the window so it circulates the air better and redid their shade. Moved it to a corner where the sun only hits it in the morning.
I'll check them for lice/mites. But what happens if I find them on them? I have a bag of DE that I dust around...
Last week, I buried my 2nd hen. Today, I have to bury my EE
I don't know if it's the heat or something else. I have the coop ventilated best I can and a fan to suck out what it can. I give them fresh water and even put ice in it to help. She was playing yesterday, but would let out a soft...
Thanks for finding that...
Wish I would've kept my frame now. Could've had them a nicely shaded run. Well, least I still have the fabric. I'm sure they'll be happy
So it's hot around here just like pretty much everywhere else...
I know the chickens need some shade in the run and I'm all about giving them some. We had initially thought about just putting up a piece of tin or something for them to get under. Then, laying in the yard, I realized I got rid...

We use those too. One holds 100# of feed and the other hold 50# of scratch. I just keep them on the shelf. I use a scoop for the feed because I can bring the feed bucket over to it.
Just tap the bottom of it. If you can gets ones attention the others will follow. They're usually pretty curious and might peck at it just because. Once they realize what it is, they'll take right to it.
Is your yard fenced in? Why not just let them go in on their own? I find mine go in around dusk and are up on their roost by dark. If I do have to round them up, I have a walking stick I use. NO, I don't beat them in I just round them up with it. Don't know why, but if I just try and walk...
The Amish have a history of building stuff to last. Using quality materials and doing the job right the first time. Is it a bit on the steep side...depends how you look at it. All you do is write the check, pick it up, and move your chickens in. While the design may look simple, I can bet...
I started out with hay and that wasn't easy to keep clean. Then I switched to pine shaving from Tractor supply and it's great. I'll occassionally get a busted egg. I just scoop out the mess and throw some clean shavings in there. Do you have a lip in front of the nest box? I put one about...
Not sure about everyone elses hard water, but here in West Texas, the water will eat up a water heater element in no time. Been using the nipples for about 6 months now and no problems what so ever. Now in the winter time, they did tend to freeze up a bit, but I just put some warm water in...

Sorry about your loss. I just had one of mine die today as well. I buried her next to our dog. Not sure where you are or what you're allowed to do. We live out in the country.
We've had them for about 7 months. They're all about 2 yrs old or so. This one in particular only had one wing. My friend that I bought them from said she was attacked by a dog when she was little and lost her wing. When we got them, I made her a ramp for everything...she didn't use them and...
