Hello I have been told that if you put a garlic of clove in the birds water it will help prevent lice. Has or does anybody out there do this and does it work?

Is it a bad idea to build a coop out of brick? I am new to this chicken lark and i have become paranoid about Lice, flees, Red mites or any other creepy crawly that might take a fancy to my girls while their in their coop, Seeing that timber seems to be the favourite hiding place for all things...

Thanks for that info, I let them out on 25th and they haven't wandered off into next doors garden and have been returning to the coop at about 7:45PM for the last 2 evenings.

Thanks Pat, the 'pop hole' is open all the time as they have a run that i shut at night, the foot print is 3'x2' & 3' tall, the sniff test seems like a good idea, if it smells bad it usually is . Thanks Al

I am new to keeping chickens and have read that alot of disease and sickness can be prevented with good hygiene and good ventilation. Can anyone give me some idea of how much ventilation I need in my coop? My Coop is 3ft x 2ft x 3ft with a 'pop hole' 12"x 7". The roof is raised on each corner...

Hi i have just aquired my first 2 chickens, how long should i keep the in the coop/run before i let the out into the garden (i would like them to be free range as much as possible)after i bring them home. also will they naturally return to the coop at night?

Hi folks I am a newbie to keeping chickens, 2 days and counting! Could any tell me if it is usual for the coop and run to attract a lot of flies? Th e weather in Northern England has been quite hot recently but i was not expecting the run to attract so many flies, I should say that i only have 2...
