    2 eggs a day!:(

How does that work? I'm in Northumberland and I've only got 5 hens of which 3 are laying an egg every day still. The other two are still too young to have started laying.

    Strange Welsummer Egg

So my Welsummer Matilda has just laid her next egg after the weird white one. The shell colour has gone back to normal speckled brown.

    Strange Welsummer Egg

They're terrible at using the nestboxes. They always lay in the wood shavings I use in the bottom of their house.

    Strange Welsummer Egg

This morning I found that one of my Welsummer pullets, Matilda, had laid a very unusual egg. It's about 95% white, with a small circular patch of normal pigmentation. There is no doubt that is came from a Welsummer. Reading around I do not think eggs like this are very common, hence I had...

    Pullet??

I'm not massively experienced, but looking back at photos of my girls at about the same age it appears that they have much less defined/paler combs and wattles than both of yours. Might you actually have two roosters there?

    Laying in winter

I read somewhere that snow can be very stressful for chickens, particularly if they're more accustomed to warmer (and less white) surroundings. Stress can stop laying, so I'm told.

    Cream Legbar Still Not Laying

I'm getting a little bit concerned about my eldest Cream Legbar pullet Star (shown above), who I hatched 36 weeks ago. She has still not started to lay, despite the fact her younger sister Misty (who I hatched 30 weeks ago) started to lay about a fortnight ago and produces an egg almost every...

    What's your story..

I always wanted chickens, but until about a year ago I never had the opportunity to have them. I previously lived in a modest-sized house in the middle of town, with small garden and close neighbours - I didn't think it would be fair to keep the chickens in such a small space. A year ago I moved...
