Hello,
We are looking for a good home for our 4 hens. They are all 2 years old and great layers. We’re moving out of state, otherwise we’d never part with them. They’ve been well taken care of and all get along well with each other. We’re in Boulder, Colorado and need to find a home for them by...
An update on my Brahma. The good news, her neck has improved quite a bit. She was looking almost 90% her old self then things took a turn. She has been staying in the nesting box until I remove her and give her food and water. I noticed the other hens have turned on her and are now aggressive...
Thank you for noticing her eye. I will check eyes and her other ear in the morning.
No new birds to our small flock(4). The other hens are very healthy but I’m giving them vitamins just in case.
I looked in her ear canal and it looks clear. No swelling. She is off balance and walking in circles a bit.
Thank you for the vitamin dose information. I had been giving her too much vitamin E and no B complex so I’ll adjust that.
Hello, my hen came out of the coop with a wry neck. She’s off balance and stargazing. She is eating and drinking. I’ve given her vitamin E on eggs for two days.
Upon closer look I think it may be caused by an ear infection. She has white crust on the outer part of her ear. I’ve attached a...
We currently have two cooper hawks swarming the yard. They’ve been here for two days seemingly looking to build a nest. Or chickens to eat. We are surrounded by large pine trees and the chickens have a fully enclosed run. I’m guessing they won’t get much free range time while the hawks are...
My Brahma usually lays speckled eggs, but today her egg has a thin shell and is very spotted with bumps. She is 9 months old and all the hens eat layer feed with calcium. I do have oyster shells available in their run, but I don’t think anyone eats them. Do they need oyster shells if the feed...
I keep a close eye on them and know who is in the nesting box. I have looked around the yard for eggs, and keep any eye out when they’re free ranging. I guess anything is possible.
My eight month old hen seems not to be maturing. She’s the only of our flock of 4 who hasn’t laid an egg. Her comb and waddles don’t seem to be growing or turning red and she’s showing no signs of being interested in laying. No checking out the nesting boxes, no submissive squat. All four hens...
My 6month old hen has a large amount of poop stuck to her butt and needs to be bathed. It’s about 45 degrees here in Colorado. Can I bath her and put her back in her coop or is that dangerous with the temps? How do you dry a chicken? Any advice on bathing? I’ve never done it!
