I moved 6 chicks out to Blue Bonnet, who had been sitting for just over 3 weeks, this morning 1 chick was with her, and the other 5 were in the adjacent pen with two mommas who had been busy hatching their eggs. Oh, lord...we got us a chick snatching duo. One hen went back on the nest, while...
Hinotoriiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, lol.. I have a question for you. Assuming this guy is RED, and not partridge, what would be the probable outcomes for putting him with pure blacks? He's got a nice short back, stands very upright, loves to poof out his feather (Look! I'm so big.) 5 individual toes...
BTW, I took the calico splash out of his pen and put in Romeo, a proper black partridge to mate with the 3 ladies in the pen.. I had to chase after the neighbor's dog to get him back.. Danged dog ran right past me with Romeo in his mouth.. wasn't easy running up hill at my age, but I got Romeo...
OMG, you have me laughing so hard right now.. Let me show you some colors I got from 4 black poofy headed ladies and a blue partridge roo... Note: the red partridges are from my red partridge project pen.
How in the world did I get a white one, and a cream colored chick. I can see getting...
There's something strange going on in my incubator.. Yesterday I saw 3 chicks that had internally pipped. Woke up at 3am for the normal bathroom run and no chick. Woke up at 6 am and had one in the incubator. They aren't pipping 24 hours before hatch.. Just waiting until the last hour or so...
Well, drat! I carried some chicks to town and ran out of chicks before I ran out of customers.. One couple followed me home and took the last 3 chicks Plus a nice roo. Got eggs in the bator, and 8 pullets/hens a sittin'. Come onnnnnnnnn... I won't take them to town until they are at least 4...
The last three young pullets from last fall are now laying too! I've got a mess of eggs to cook up and give back as treats now. Plus (I wasn't going to hatch any this year but) 15 going in the incubator from new layers! Just got to see what they'll produce. Last hatch is looking good to me...
I've searched the web over and haven't found teem feathers, I can't think of anything other than juvie feathers.. Why do you twist my mind in knots like this? Such a challenge. :D
I've never noticed it in any of the chicks I've raised before and only 2 out of 12 have it.. thought it might have been a mutation or something. Thanks for replying so fast.
Big question.. I have 12 chicks from my red project pen and I notice a few have curly feathers on the wings. I don't have any frizzles or sizzles or any curly feathered birds. What could this be? These two will be keepers until fully developed to see how they turn out.
