I have an 8 year old hen that rules the roost around here. She is my only older girl, the rest are 1 year olds. Several months ago a stray was found in the neighborhood and the kids who found it assumed it was mine and brought it to me. Sweetest, tamest girl I've ever had. After...
I'm so glad to hear that doing that has helped you....didn't work with mine unfortunately. I would carry him around first thing in the morning for about a half hour, sit with him watching the girls, talk to him...then for about the same amount of time when they were heading in for the evening...
Glad to hear my Paisley isn't just a kook. She waits until after she lays....does her appropriate announcing to the world about it and then takes off across the yard (free ranged) stopping every few feet to pick up grass and throw it on her back as she makes her way. I notice several people...
That is SO awesome! There are so many pits or pit mixes in the shelters. So happy it worked out for both of you. I have to admit I am a little leery of the breed....but only because I know people have messed so many up, not necessarily the breed itself.
My daughter works at both a Humane...
I love this story so much!! My sister "supposedly" has a Min Pin that I suspect is actually Manchester or a cross. She is twice the size you would expect of a Min Pin. Her name is also Missy. She has never shown any bad behavior toward my chickens but is hell on wheels with rodents and...
Thanks so much for all the info. I think with good training and time this could be the dog I'm looking for. Unless there are horror stories yet to appear. : )
Been doing some research for a possible new dog.. I see where the Giant Schnoodle's are being used for livestock guardians but haven't seen mention of them with chickens. Anyone have one or any experience with the breed?
I like the fact that they are ok with working during the day and coming...
Thanks. Yes, the neighbors do have dogs. I have tried the no- crow collar route (even though I hate it) but haven't had a lot of luck. Also haven't had luck finding him a home....not sure what the fate of my poor Bruce is going to be. : (
Thanks, yes I think he is gorgeous. He is my first rooster experience, (not purchased intentionally) so I have loved watching the interaction between him and the girls. He even saved one of my old girls by creating quite the ruckous when we had our first hawk attack in over 7 years of free...
Thanks. Yes, he actually is wearing a no crow collar. He seems to loosen it throughout the day though so still gets loud. I really hate having to use it on him...I take it off at night and check his neck as it always seems to get red and irritated. Does work when it's in place though.
