First egg -she came running to tell me.

No. She was given to us as a rescue at 7 weeks old. She was our first chicken and has survived my learning curve. She’s the leader of our roosterless flock and a good one. And she still comes to sit in my lap or beside me almost every day.

First hen killed by raccoon this morning :(

I’m so sorry 😞 she sounded sweet and you clearly grew to bond with her in the short time. Don’t be hard on yourself for not knowing. I hate raccoons. I remember leaving Georgina out nights at the beginning too while I learned about chickens. Then realized how dangerous that could have been. Now...

    Racoons help!

It’s a great reply and I thank you. I want them dead. There are 5. We looked at the camera surveillance this morning and they are roaming our land. I have no feelings for these animals after an incident some years ago protecting feral cats. Looks like we’d need several traps however and if one...

    Racoons help!

Any help or advice appreciated. We have security cameras on the coop at night and 9.30pm just after dark we saw a gang of racoons in the run. We ran out with flashlights and sticks screaming and they ran off. But I know they’ll be back. I know racoons.. how they return..experienced them looking...

Thank you. Useful to get them all in one place. Appreciate that. No I only lived in Bristol for my first early college days. Many years ago 🙂 Lived most of my life in Japan.

First egg -she came running to tell me.

Good point. It’s on a daisy chain and the primary feed leg is a GFCI which has a safety breaker. We attached this to the camera so if ever there’s a problem we get an alert.

First egg -she came running to tell me.

Yesterday Georgina laid our first egg. She’s 20 weeks. The others only 12 weeks. She came running over to the deck where I was, sat on my knee then she jumped on the deck rail and flew down 10 feet and ran back to the coop. She came to tell me! It’s a beautiful egg! I have a video of her flight...
