    Crazy flock!

I finally got the two wayward chicks back! A guinea wandered into the yard out of the blue and sort of herded them back toward the house, where I attracted them with some feed (they seemed like they were starving). I grabbed them both when they were eating I'm shocked that they even let me...

    Crazy flock!

Well I gave them time today (stopped chasing them!) and came home this evening to find them sitting on my doorstep, about a 1/4 mile trek from where they disappeared! Still too skittish and ran off again. I'm thinking they'll likely be dinner for something pretty soon...

    Crazy flock!

My flock of chicks is five weeks old, and I recently moved them to a transient coop on my back porch while I build their permanent home. Up until four weeks, I had to keep them in an oversize Rubbermaid bin (21 chicks got pretty cramped in there by four weeks!), which made it hard to get them...

What breed of chicken do I have?

Lucille perched atop Logan, the stalker/guard-cat. Shortly after this photo op, she tried to nip Lucille in the beak, then pounce on a pullet...the flock responded by chasing her across the yard.

What breed of chicken do I have?

I hope she's not a roo...I have five already in a flock of 21! Going to have to get rid of 2 or 3 when they grow older; I had gotten 5 with the expectation that I might lose a couple of birds here and there to different things, but so far every one of them has survived in excellent condition...

What breed of chicken do I have?

Looking at the Wikipedia article on Wyandottes, I found a picture of a blue laced red that looks identical to mine, only full-grown. I'd say we have a positive ID here.

What breed of chicken do I have?

The Wyandotte varieties seem to be favored thus far...whatever she is, she loves to eat! She's one of the largest chicks in my flock, it's really something to watch her dig a trench around the feeders getting every last dropped scrap while all the other chicks just sort of timidly peck at the...

What breed of chicken do I have?

New pictures! Still haven't found anything that looks like her...but then again I'm not very good at ID'ing most chickens either.

Found this girl digging through my compost pile...

I hadn't thought of a mix...then again, whenever I've seen chickens anywhere and wondered what breed they were, it hasn't occurred to me to consider that they could be mixed breeds. Whatever it is, it's a beautiful bird! She was a bit skittish, but she didn't mind me standing/working within...

Found this girl digging through my compost pile...

I'm not sure what she is, but she's pretty sure of herself coming into my yard and raiding the pile for bugs! My chicks are barely 4 weeks old, they don't even know what to do when I hold a grub out to them...they all gather around, stare at it really hard, then run away chirping when it starts...

Thanks everyone, glad to have found this site, it's been quite the help lately!

What breed of chicken do I have?

Thanks, I can't wait to see what it turns into. It's a lively one, my grandfather saw it when they arrived and named it Lucille, although we suspect it will turn out to be a rooster, it has quite a set of lungs!

What breed of chicken do I have?

So my new flock just arrived, 12 RIRs and 8 Brown Leghorns. When I ordered them, the hatchery included a surprise hatchling that they described as "exotic" or "rare"...but they said there was no way to guarantee what breed it would be. Since my chick identification skills are quite rough (I...

Hey everyone, glad to see such a great community here! I've recently started a new flock of 21 chicks, Brown Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds, looking forward to learning more about chickens here on the forum.
