    I have read where you are not supposed to use newspaper in the bottom of the brooder.They can slip and get splayed leg. I just got chicks a week ago,and I am using paper towels,then after a couple days add shavings on top of the paper.

    Anyone else doing the "chick wait"?

    Yes me!!! my chicks are supposed to ship on Monday, I have full grown chickens,but never chicks. I am so excited, nervous etc. Gonna get the brooder set up this weekend.Still confused about what kind of light to use.

    Do they have red incandescent bulbs,or should I just maybe go with a lower watt red heat lamp.250 watt seems so hot,especially since they will be indoors.

    So you guys think since the brooder will be indoors, I could use like a regular incandecsent 100 watt, I should mention i am only getting 5 chicks.
