I used a beach towel, moved real slow and quiet. towel hanging between me and him and then slowly lower it onto the trap then grab the handle through the towel. slowly pick it up and the only sudden movement is when I drop the trap into the water. they seem pretty calm with the trap covered.
update, 2 skunks down . one head shot , didn't spray but definitely let it out after it was dead, polluted the whole yard. the one that I caught in a live trap I took a large tote big enough to submerge entire trap filled it up with water and dropped it in. No spray, but again it definitely...
everyone inside was safe overnight. good thing I closed the door as there was two new holes under the fence this morning, I could smell skunk at one of the holes. it was able to get the bat out of the havahart I think the trap is to small and also old and doesn't shut properly all the time. oh...
I closed the door into the coop from the unsecure run last night. I will be covering the top with netting today. I have a 6 foot frnce, which I started (will finish today), adding a 4 foot piece of 1" wire fence to the bottom with a foot on the ground held down with cinder blocks and large...
no, don't know how, was speaking of the run, door into coop stays open, yes, I don't know I guess I was just putting most of the damage on the others eating them. I think there are a few spots something could sqeeze under . I have a lot of skunks
I lost two more one chick inside the coop and one adolescent inside the fence. the problem I have is the others peck the remains so much I cant tell anything from the body. For some reason I am still highly suspicious of one old hen that's broody and I have seen her brutally attacking some of...
I found a little evidence right by the fence , a turd that looked like ground up crickets or something. I thought it was to big to be a skunk , then I caught a skunk gnawing on one of the carcasses on the compost pile, wasn't sure about him so I eliminated him. the 22 cal air rifle works well...
is it normal for the rest to peck at and eat the carcass even if they didn't kill it ? will this promote cannibalism in the future ? I think I will eliminate the possum first chance I get. smaller net fencing ?
the one by the fence was whole minus the head, the on inside was dismembered, couldn't find the head. the others were pecking at the remains. ive never seen a rat or evidence of rats. there is a possum and several skunks in the area . I have 4 cats but they don't usualy pay any attention to the...
ive had the chicks in with adults for a couple weeks. yesterday I caught the hens chasing one of them mercilessly. first time. this morning this morning I found pieces of one inside the coop. and a whole on by the fence with just the head gone. head seemed to be missing on the one found inside...
Our chickens are so hyper and they always fly over the fence so we might cut the flight feathers so they don't lay eggs in the yard, or risk being hurt because they just flip out!
