Life changes force me to rehome my 5 hens, all great layers and family friendly ASAP.
3 Barred Rocks(one is half blind and very friendly) and 2 fancy bantams(porcelain d'uccle and Citron millefleur feather foot) the porcelain bird is very personable and will often let you know what is going on...
Ah, okay. I seriously had no idea how it worked for chickens. I have easy access to the rooster so we can have them visit often.
She's two years and change, not broody now but is the one that's always setting.
Thanks all!!!
I introduced our broodiest bantam to my friends beautiful bantam rooster and they got along famously. So now what? I have had chickens for years but have never attempted chicks, she seemed like the best candidate because she's the"mother hen" of the group.
I am out of town for work three days a...
One got into our coop last night through a tiny flat hole it dug. The chickens woke us with their squawking(it sounded like she was yelling HELP). Feathers everywhere and one of the girls has a pretty decent gash on her shoulder. I put antibiotic cream on it, she's eating, drinking and acting...
Testing...check, one, two. Check...check...one, two.
We're a family of four with three cats, one legal and two outlaw chickens, two leopard geckos, and one red rat snake. We live in the Land of the Mosquito; sunny, soggy Florida.
I've been cuckoo for chickens for a long time and...
I'm a little late for this and will post pics later but finally, after long last, We Have Eggs!!!
We got our girls on July 4th and were not sure of their ages(they had 50/50 down and feathers). We watched as they got their big girl feathers, listened to their first b'goks, laughed when...
It's fall and fall brings migrating hawks, great horned owls and the like to my backyard. Just saw one on our back fence and the girls knew it was there because I had the hardest time getting them to leave the tree covered area and cross the small bit of clearing to their tractor. I guess I'll...
Didn't vote because I don't consider them to be unwelcomed, just visitors. There are lots of cats(pets and feral) that pass through our yard and none of them bother either the coop area or the chickens themselves while they free range - for the most part they ignore them. We do have cats...
I'm so sorry for your loss. Been there this summer, we lost a hen, two chicks and a guinea pig to dogs - a weiner dog and some other ankle biter-type. to your whole family
I'm confused about the part where you had to facilitate and sign all the adoption papers. Why is this so? Sounds like a hinky situation, I would cancel the adoption.
That's a great story. I use the birds to alert me when there are predators around. Between the squirrels, blue jays, cardinals and mockingbirds we don't need a dog.
