So we have determined it is one of our four red sex link hens that is laying the distorted soft eggs. There seems to be a common dime size no shell spot on the eggs.
How do we determine what is wrong? We dont see worms or mites.
Today we are keeping the Wynadotte locked up in their portable coop, so we at least know what set of birds is laying what eggs. Then ftom there we can continue the elimination process.
I will also probably pick up a bag of grower feed.
Which leads to another question. When we are ready to...
I should mention I think the soft shell eggs are coming from the Wynadottes because they ususlly lay smaller eggs. I should mention they are the more aggressive chickems.
I have 4 red sex links and 3 Wynadottes. They are 18 months old. They molted a couple months ago. We had a very cold winter in Seattle.
We feed Purina Layer Feed.
We have Calcium Carbonate ‘grit’ but they dont appear to touch it all for weeks at a time.
My problem:
We are getting on a regular...
The hens are 14 months old.
I have a cage like the one described.
I removed all food from the coop (left water) last night. When I put the food out this morning all the chickens ran to it except this one.
I checked its crop and seems normal. Checked its vent and seems fine (as i put her on...
So we came home and all the chickens in their coop including ‘sick one’, laying on top of another one like it normally does.
I saw video on ‘crop checking’. Will check tomorrow but when i picked it up today did not notice anything abnormal.
Not sure how to check the crop.
I should memtion last 5 days only a few eggs from all the chickens.
Thinking because winter time, getting colder and darker.
We are in Seattle
we have seven chickens about one year old. Raised them from about 4 weeks old.
We have one chicken acting strange. It is staying away from all the other chickens. Mainly staying in one position.
It let me pick it up with no problem and no signs of injury.
Does nor run to the snacks we put...
Yes it is not feasible to take them. So either have a going away party and have them all for dinner and take the coops or just leave them and tgeir coops for someone else.
Thanks for the input.
We are renting an enclosed uhaul to ship possessions also. So no additional cost to ship chickens.
Actually saving around $500 by shipping coops.
If we move in late fall early spring not as concerned it is 1 to 1-1/2 years from now.
I know it sounds crazy but we Are considering moving our six chickens with us to Arkansas from Seattle love. They will 1-/12 years old and we’re getting 5-6 eggs a day and they’re very tame.
We would be bringing their two portable coop/run with us in a U-Haul.
The concern is we cannot...
