Has anyone ever used sand as a ground cover in their coops?? Was just curious if it would work or should I just stick to straw.

Duh, I forget the black part. White Crested Black Polish.

I'm pretty sure it's a boy. Cotton is our White Crested Polish and he has more of that rocker look to his top feathers as opposed to the girls who have that wider do.

Recently, my roo has started laying low and spreading his wings like he's ready to be mounted, ( I'm dying of embarrasment typing this) when I go to pick him up. Is this normal? I've only seen it with my hens, so I'm just a little baffled.

We always lock up our girls at night, too.

I stick with the kales and other greens for mine. They would have corn too, but, I haven't been able to keep the squirrels from getting it first.

I take some of my greens from the garden and hang them up in the run. They seem to enjoy the extra bit of work.

She's a pretty one!

I rake ours out a few times a week and add some hay and sand to it.
