I'm sorry for the late reply, but we had to leave for church and she's been acting completely normal since then and I haven't turned my computer on since then. She is 21-23 weeks old, so she is somewhere between 5 and 6 months old. We are feeding a mix of the grower feed that we got from the...
What does it mean when a chicken opens it's mouth and bends its head to the side. I know I read something about it relating to the crop, but I can't remember where I saw it. I figured someone here would know. She seems healthy otherwise. She's growing, eating, drinking, pooping and her crop...
I'm sorry for not replying earlier, but I started my last semester of college the same week I posted this. We also lost the Brahma and Goldie the Golden Laced Wyandotte that week, I think from the combination of the worms, mites and heat since it was over 100 for a few weeks. We have a fan and...
That's what I was thinking. They did have mites, one had stick tight fleas, and at least one or two had round worm. We treated them all for the mites with a spray, then again with a powder, and we just treated for round worms, and will retreat in a few days. I am hoping that will straighten...
This is the first time we've gotten eggs like these, but they were from one of our regular layers. They are still fairly young, somewhere between 6 and 8 months old.
The RIR's were laying steady regular eggs every day or two since we got them about a month ago, and it seems like it has slowed down recently. We had given ACV but my boyfriend read that can cause issues with calcium absorption in the heat so we stopped. Maybe it is because of that?
They are on a grower and all flock mix. The grower we have has 20% protein and resembles scratch, and the all flock is pellets, not sure of protein content on that though. Oyster shell is free choice in a dish.
Yes I know they do, but there was no shell on theses, and the pubic bones on the two that I suspected may have laid them, they were too close together. They have free choice oyster shells already.
Counter clockwise, Brahma, Easter Egger, Golden Layced Wyandotte (Goldie You may have to look hard for her), and Blue Plymouth Rock (Blue)
Left to right Blue, Easter Egger (with blu kote on), Brahma, Goldie, and our Rhode Island Reds on the bottom.
I checked their pubic bones and they are too close together, so I think it's one of the RIR's. I have read that heat can affect how much they lay and the stress of the heat can affect the shell. I give oyster shell free choice and the food we give has 20% protein which from the reactions I get...
