I have a pair of paint silkies that threw a partridge. No idea about their parents, this is my first generation of silkies. Was very surprised and pleased to see a partridge color!
Can I separate my one Roo for a while? My hens are looking awful. One hen is obviously the favorite. Will he get sick or be sad or something if I put him on his own for a while?
Thanks. I had been assuming they wouldn't be laying soon. (Especially with the days getting shorter.) But, I was wondering when I should start keeping an eye out. I haven't even been checking their boxes at all besides for cleaning. I'd hate to have them start laying and just have eggs sitting...

I definitely figured out what smell I'm looking for. I haven't figured out amounts yet, though. I'm also working on FF for my four silkies. I think I have a workable system in place, and I've been listening to some podcasts which seem helpful. The Online Chicken School and the urban chicken...
I am trying fermenting my quail feed. I have 6 quail and I've sped through two 10 lb bags of feed in the last....month and a half? And I'm dumping a good portion of that out of their tray underneath the cage. This is going to get expensive!!!
I hope I can figure out the fermented feed thing. I...
I was told that my standard coturnix would be laying at 6 weeks and possibly some would start at 5 weeks. They were 7 weeks on Monday and definitely haven't started laying. I'm wondering if my cage is too dark? I don't want to cook them in the sun....
