She won't eat. She can't really hold her head up, although she will open her eyes briefly when lying down. I checked her for injury, but can only see some scratched areas on her back that seem to be from being trampled. I think her injuries must be internal and that she is passing.
This morning I found one of my largest birds (18 weeks) laying on the ground looking trampled. She is still breathing and warm and I have her inside in a box lined with towels. She hasn't opened her eyes yet and is very dirty (straw and bedding in her feathers). SHe has been very healthy up...
I am brooding some chicks to be shared with a friend who has a small existing flock of standards and bantams. Is there an age at which it would be best to combine? They are 5 weeks now and we were thinking about 8 weeks, but I would appreciate advice. I don't know if breed makes any...
How long do you feed starter feed to chicks before you switch to grower feed? Also when yoou feed chicks how much do you put out seeing that much of it will be wasted by messy chicks? Will it be obvious once the chicks start eating (mine should arrive tomorrow) or is there a formula to it...
I was home schooled my last two years of high school. I found it much more mentally stimulating to research on my own than to regurgitate textbook material; I read widely and developed many meaningful social contacts. I felt quite prepared for college and graduated cum laude despite taking 21...
I have 4 raised garden beds that I want to use to "pasture" my chickens so they can wander about eating bugs and plants during the day but also be protected by fencing from cats that wander about. It will be enough room when they are young, but when they are full sized, I assume I will need to...
I grew up Baptist then became an Anglican in my twenties. It is liberating to feel like you don't have to be like anyone or be judged by other peoples standards. We are all fellow-travelers on the same journey and only God's judgments matter. The saints through history were the most diverse...
Having been born in the North and lived in the South for over ten years both by the grace of God, I appreciate the cultures that are as different as two foreign countries and think that Southern accents and ways are charming although totally confusing for the first few years.
Hey everyone! I'm in Vicksburg, and I just had a neighbor evicted by his landlord for keeping three bantams. Is this normal or just a picky landlord? The renter was liked by everyone on the street. I'm new to Vicksburg and don't want to alienate the neighbors if I can help it. Any feedback...
I placed my first order three weeks ago and have four more to wait.
Reading this forum is either helping or forcing me to buy chicks at the coop when they come in next week.
Here's to fuzzy butts!
I am splitting an order of 15 with a friend, but we will keep them as chicks since I have little ones that will enjoy watching chicks, and she has a mature flock that the new ones will have to be integrated into. I have a feeling that I might take all the chicks and flee to Canada.
