    Something is killing my chicks

That's why I'm thinking it's a rat. The wire underneath should keep them out, but rats can be pretty widely that way. I'm hoping the bait on the outter wall of the barn wall will be an easier meal...

    Something is killing my chicks

I just got an order of 25 chicks. They're in a brooding pen, 7 feet long 3 feet wide. Standard hardware cloth sizes, open bottom, and I have netting over the top, and I secure it with boards and a piece of sheet kettle for the big hens to roost on. .. They're 2 weeks old. Last week, there were...

2 broody hens in one nest

One of my easter egger hens went broody on me. As she sat on her eggs, a white leghorn decided to "help". So for 2 of the 3 weeks, they were either one or the other or both in there. I hear peeping so I know they're hatching. It's really crowded in there, and I know some eggs won't be hatching...

    Aggressive Rooster Help Please

Sounds harsh, but I carry a 2" PVC pipe 4 feet long and hit mine as hard as I could. At first, it worked ok, but he was biding his time, and one day he caught me off guard. So I threw him in the yard and one of my Dobies had a really fresh raw diet that day. I don't tolerate aggression in any of...

    My hens stopped laying 😟

I've never had that problem before. I gather twice a day and these hens are well to overfed. I really doubt that is the issue.

    My hens stopped laying 😟

I have 30 or so assorted hens, some a year and a half, some 8 months old. They were laying just fine, but early mid July the older girls went into a molt. I was down to 4 eggs a day. A month ago they started up, I was to 10 eggs a day then out of the clear, they just *bam* completely stopped...

    OMG an egg actually hatched!

Yes. I know I can keep chasing them out. Usually just take the eggs out from under them with the rest of the gathered eggs. Lol.... I have to creep for the lambs. Yikes. Ok can you send a picture of an easy chick creeper?

    OMG an egg actually hatched!

Yes the hen was with the flock and normally these chickens do not go broody. I raise the chickens for eggs for my dogs to have the extra nourishment. But this girl went broody and I decided to let her sit on the eggs because she was so determined. Now yes a second hen, this time a salmon...

    OMG an egg actually hatched!

I need to qualify that this is a small working farm. I raised Dobermans and I got the chickens so I could have eggs for my dogs. So the chickens have a dedicated stall in the barn for their coop, and it has two very large runs lined with chain link fencing and mesh over the top so they can't get...

    OMG an egg actually hatched!

Yes. The hen was With my others. I have plastic crates underneath my nest boxes and she took up broody residence in one of those crates. I figured it was just a few eggs and let her have her fun. So now one has hatched. How does the little chick get food and water? The chickens drink from...
