You could use a nest trap to see who's laying what. I thought about that, but I don't have that many nests, so I set aside a rabbit hutch and once mine start laying, I will rotate them in the hutch to see who lays what. Mine should start laying any day, I'm very excited!

Well happy to announce that I have potential buyers for both the meanie and wheaten. This was my third attempt and honestly would have given them away. Glad to get a buck or two to add to the feed jar though! The only reason I decided to get a roo is because I've spent a fortune...
Renee,
Is your Wheaten the one in the second pic?? I'm not seeing a cinnamon wing triangle, are you sure he is not a golden hackled BCM? The first and third pics are really too hard to see anything, being they are so small and clicking on them doesn't enlarge them.

Mean rooster! My boy (Roo 1) now 6 months is taking cheap shots when my back is turned. I'm bummed b/c he has the nicest body of the roos I have. I thought to maybe make him his own pen to keep him in till I want him for breeding next year. I'm concerned that the temperment will come across...

I appreciate the feedback I got on these. Took a hard look again and all have squirrel tails. Roo 1 is definately heavier by a few lbs, broader chest. And he threw that body at me with all his might last night drawing blood. Is that something that will continue or a phase for this...
It may be short, I don't have a comparision in real life. Here's another pic, Roo 1 and 3. It's so darn hard to get pics, they act like you're gonna shoot them with a gun, not a camera. Is there a measure, say like they should be 10 inches long.... Or X long in comparision to Y? I just...

I like your #1 boy best out of all 3 of them. He may be a tad to dark but he is the nicest bodied bird overall, IMO.
Thanks! My fav too:) Just to clarify, you mean dark as in too black or not enough coloring? Renee
Morning,
Finally got some half way decent pics of my roos. All hatched end of February. Roo 1 and 2 BC, Roo 3 wheaten. And yes, there is some white fluff near the tail on Roo 1 They may all be dinner, but I'd like to get some feedback before I make any decisions. Many thanks!

Just a thought, I found a great way to deter and sometimes take out squirrels by accident this year. I ran an electric wire around my garden about an inch or so above the ground and used a 5 mile charger. It was meant only to deter, but I've found at least 10 dead squirrels (and lots...
I have a blue wheaten roo I like a lot, but he is small, so if anyone wants him for your bantam projects come on over! Actually I slipped in the forum to see if anyone in the San Diego area might have wheaten chicks or pullets. Or even eggs. Don't have a broody now, but one never knows I...
I had a hen do this last year. Weird to hear a "crow" when you don't have a rooster. I had to go peeking around my barn to see what was up! And she also was jumping the other hens. It only lasted about a month.

Greetings!
Hey Don, I'm really new to the marans and wonder what you mean by over colored. I have managed to collect 6 roosters (all under 6 months yet). Three BC have color to the base of the neck and no more. Another has burgangy covering his back. Same with a wheaten. And I have a blue...

According to the lady that I got them from, she ordered eggs from Bev Davis, some wheaton, some BCM and these roosters came from that. I will try to get some pics. They are molting right now, so not pretty, but I "think" one is a blue wheaten. Never in my life would I have dreamed...
