Thank you, I see what you're saying. I guess I was thinking I'd take this problem on myself since Florida officials aren't doing anything about it. I've called everyone, explained everything but keep getting yet another useless number to call, and end up back where I started. It's frustrating...
I see everyone's point and agree on the handling. Unfortunately wildlife officials and rehab here in Florida won't help Muscovys. They're considered invasive and will only take them if they're dying and then will euthanize.
Well, not handling him seems to be the consensus from others too. I did worry that the stress would be bad on him. I get what you say about the charcoal. About a month ago my other 2 ducks were sick, we think botulism, not sure. First one and then the second, a day later. My vet only had one...
I bought some charcoal capsules, 1600 mg for a wild Muscovy that comes up into my lawn after my domestic ducks eat. I noticed the other day one wing was drooping badly, the next day as I expected, both wings were drooping. I have a lot of wild ducks dying out in my pond lately. I don't know...
I love "boss duck"! I called my guy "top duck", and he really was that. Interesting about the walking, because the first one that died with me could also swim, but not walk. That makes sense I guess it's about weight-bearing. Towards the end I would have to go down to the lake and pick him up at...
Yes thank you for mentioning that. On the first vet visit when his potassium was high, the vet mentioned that, but when checking the kidneys couldn't find anything wrong there. Then when I had to take him back potassium wasn't even a problem then.
I wanted to see if I can hear from others, who have experience with this breed regarding lifespan after they've become adults.
My flock started out as four of them, all drakes. All was well up until about 1 year ago when they were 4 and a half years old, that's when I lost one of them because...
What a horrible thing to do. Yes it's pretty much the same here in South Florida. It's awful how people can be so hateful towards them.
The rest of the wildlife seems okay. Actually yesterday when I walked out back to feed my little flock, they were all in my backyard. I had the Muscovy and...
Yes, I have a great thing, similar to a kiddie door gate that my DLH made. My coop can open from the top, and I can slide it right down. So I use that when I have to put one of them in timeout, or just if I feel like I need to protect one for any reason. I've used it so many times for different...
They're white crested, and thankfully he's looking much better and stronger today. Blue boy has quieted down and not so eager to test him now! So, yes, apparently it doesn't take them long to figure out what going on in the flock.
You'd think that would be the case. But the people here can't even be bothered to call it in to the property manager. I've been so disappointed with my community lately.
Wow, that is exactly what happened! You must have been around a lot of ducks. I have two other ducks and they are both drakes. As soon as I let him go out it started, but only with one of them. He has continued to try and bully and take advantage of his weakness. I even had to yell at him twice...
