Good morning
I have been doing birds for awhile but this is got me stumped. About 3 weeks ago I had a hen about 9 months, she stopped eating, lost weight and was extremely weak. I assumed that she was dying. I separated her. She still has not passed on- hardly eating. A week later a rooster...
I live in Ohio. It was raining. The birds were out. They could have gone in the coop but they did not. The temperature dropped now they are wet with some ice on wings. I put a heat lamp on. Suggestions?
Oh maybe you can help me understand. We have 2 red laced wyandottes from really reputable breeders. We wanted more so we bred them - as you said we 50%splash and 50% BLR. The problem is that one BLR cockerel has a single comb??? One hen (or so I think) has a rose comb with a spike in the back...
I am hesitant to write because I may get some wrath .... however I really love my birds and I need your help. We got our chickens in the summer and I bought everything I needed. They were foraging and did not eat much if any grit. Then winter hit and they were coop bound but the grit had gotten...
We have a hen who was stripped of feathers by the rooster last fall. Then we had a pecking problem. It is a mixed flock and she is the only white splash. We put on aprons that worked for awhile then we put on pinless peepers which worked great! But all of a suddden she started getting pecked...
I have two chickens that share a small coop. They are 9 months old. The Red sex link started laying in June the Plymouth Rock in September, last week one of them laid 2 eggs in one day but one of the eggs was translucent and not completely formed. The next day we were an egg short, the next two...
Thank you for all of your information ..... And that was a LOT. I am a teacher and I want everyone working together and getting along. I guess this will be a great learning experience for me to just let nature take its course. We got the rooster because we like the cockadoodling and to keep...
This is crazy! I have a very mixed flock. I have 2 hens that live in a small coop they are several months older then the 6 hens that live in the big coop but when I put them together the older ones won't even let the younger ones in the coop for food. The question is I have a rooster who lives...
Hi
I started chickens - thinking that I had done my research - not! I bought a prefab coop that I had done alot of checking on. It is terrible. A raccoon got three of our birds, three different ways, before we got the raccoon. So then there were 2. We went out and bought 7 more thinking that the...
I was told by a man who has a lot of chickens that I should not give my chickens any fruit because it will stop them from laying but in my dummy book it doesn't say that - so where is the truth??

The dogs got hold of this chicken ....she is okay and other than unhappy about being alone .... seems okay . We are keeping her in solitary because no matter how much blucoat and antipick spray we put on she still gets picked on. So until it heals we thought we would keep her separate. But now...
Actually now I only have 4. My daughter wants to change that but I said not until we get things under control. I like the idea of splitting it up 2 & 2. Just so that white dandruff stuff is not some terrible disease.
The predator is not a hawk. I did not have the nesting box lid on tight and...
My daughter and I just started raising 6 chickens. The coop and contained run is inside our 5' dog fence. We have 2 dogs one is a very meek service dog and the other is a mild mannered Chow. But the two decided one day that the chickens looked like GREAT toys. They made a hole in the run which...
