Im in the same boat as you two. 7 month old Rhode Island Red and still no eggs. Also in Florida. All the other hens are laying daily and it’s perfect weather here. Did yours eventually lay eggs? Is Florida cursed? 😂
I'm struggling with some of my chickens so hopefully someone might be able to help. I've noticed over the past two months that my egg count has drastically taken a dive. I have 11 hens, two 4-month old pullets and one roo, so before the summer, I was averaging about 7-9 eggs a day. Now, I'm...
Well it hatched yesterday! Looks like we got two mothers. Or three if you count the duck that laid the egg lol.
I separated both into a new area adjacent to the main coop. Should suffice for now. Thanks for the advice.
Ok, that sounds like a good idea. Coincidentally, I already have a special space inside the coop because my adopted feral chicken wasn't playing nice with one of the silkies at one point. Things have been great for 3-4 months so I can easily relocate them after the duckling hatches.

So a couple weeks ago we had an unfortunate raccoon attack and we lost our male duck. This left us with a single female duck and about 8 chickens. Because the male duck was too aggressive with the chickens, we separated them, but now the female duck is penned up with the chickens and happy...
About a year old and she lays an egg a day no fail. She did lay a soft shelled egg a few weeks ago but it was only the once and never again since. I just chalked it off as a fluke.
Will try the extra protein though and check for wet feather, thanks.
Swims a couple times a day. I only have a small pond I dug for them but it's enough for them to float and play around. I'm not sure about them looking wet though. The water usually runs right off their feathers as if it's oil and water. I'll try to pay more attention to it tomorrow though...
I read online that I shouldn't worry and that this is part of molting. But it's been about 2 months now. Shouldn't the feathers start growing back by now? I'm starting to worry that something more serious is going on. The male looks fine but she has looked this way ever since the feathers...
Hey everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. Been a lurker for over a year and got lots of answers to my questions from all your posts. Thought I'd finally join.
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I started with just a feral chicken that started wandering in...
