Suspected Ascites in duck - necropsy

Thank you! Our vets here (Canada) are so overworked, it’s hard to get seen for anything but emergencies. I’m confident it’s not Avian Flu but would just be nice to know especially if it’s preventable in the future.

Suspected Ascites in duck - necropsy

Hello, I’m wondering if I might gain some insight from those who are more familiar, as to the potential reason for the sudden death of my duck. Initial and immediate concern was for the increase in cases of Avian Flu in our region, however there is no evidence of symptoms in the remainder of...

Rare colour Khaki Campbell as breeding stock?

Well her offspring looks incredibly close to gold phase welsh harlequins - with the exception of the bill which is consistently light in colour - almost flesh-toned. Personality is quite nice and mellow but she’s an inconsistent layer and her offspring might be too - the whole batch went to a...

    Cross breeding for colours

ours definitely looks like this guy! My main unique identifier (and the reason I thought he was an Italian) was that the back 'stripes' are really dominant and they are light/almost white. his brown/gold/rust colour is really only around the face, and not at all in the back feathers (there is a...

    Cross breeding for colours

YOU'RE THE BEST!!! Thank you! I thought Falb Fees were super rare - I wouldn't have thought we'd find one in our own coop :) It's the only one of 60 eggs we hatched out. Do you know what the silver roo would result in when mixed with the others? TIA!

    Cross breeding for colours

I'm looking for genetic wisdoms because despite many attempts I still don't feel confident with the quail calculator and I'm planning to start a new flock with a few birds that have shown awesome personalities. I have tentatively set aside: 1 Silver male 1 Italian/pharaoh male 2 Pharaoh females...

Rare colour Khaki Campbell as breeding stock?

Thanks! I do find she has a bit of the harlequin look! I’ll definitely try breeding and post results!

Rare colour Khaki Campbell as breeding stock?

Well I can certainly try to use her eggs (they're definitely fertile as of late) and see how the incubation goes. If she is a new colour phase, I guess that would be cool! This is the one and only time I've seen khakis that look like that, and the breeder I got my flock from in the first place...

Rare colour Khaki Campbell as breeding stock?

Here's what that batch looked like as ducklings ... I completely forgot we had a splashed one in the mix - he died from an unfortunate incident with our neighbour's grandkid. The second batch we incubated was 5 true-to-form Khaki's - no oddities, that we sold.

Rare colour Khaki Campbell as breeding stock?

Hi all! I was reading up on rare colour in various breeds and wanted some input on my khaki Campbells before I incubate. My original flock consisted of the drake plus the khaki and dark Campbell, that are now two years old - these ducks came from a breeder who said they were pure (we saw her...

Candling day 25 (lockdown) with unexpected results - HELP!

Maybe I got too big for my breeches too fast. We did so well with our small incubator so I upgraded from 7 to 48 capacity, and made plans to increase our setup. Well, looks like slow and steady is the way to win this race :(

Candling day 25 (lockdown) with unexpected results - HELP!

ok, that's also depressing but makes me feel a bit better I guess.

Candling day 25 (lockdown) with unexpected results - HELP!

I will - this time with all my own flock's eggs - this run has proven to be a bit too expensive!

Candling day 25 (lockdown) with unexpected results - HELP!

yes - the secondary one I run is calibrated perfectly and I check it before setting eggs, so I know the incubator runs slightly lower.
