15 week old peachick has stopped eating/drinking and is not acting like himself at all

Charlie wanted me to let you know he’s feeling much better. He’s still not 100% but he’s happily scarfing down mealworms again. He weighed about 3.5 pounds, so we gave him .3ml Corid 2x per day for 5 days, then just once a day for one day, and then gave him none yesterday or today. He’s very...

15 week old peachick has stopped eating/drinking and is not acting like himself at all

Just gave him more water, but he doesn’t want it. After we finished (takes one holding him and another with the syringe), he just gave me this fresh green runny poo. I have the Kaytee baby bird food, and the 18 gauge catheters should arrive tomorrow for tubing which will be easier if we can...

15 week old peachick has stopped eating/drinking and is not acting like himself at all

Hi. I have two peachicks, a 16wo girl and a 15wo boy. They have been doing terrific. They are currently housed outside in a large pen that’s under cover and on concrete with pine shavings on the floor. They eat a mix of chick starter and game bird starter and get meal worms for treats fed by...

    Concrete floor?

This is the mostly finished juvie bird jail. We brought them out for a bit to introduce them to it before putting on finishing touches and moving them out here full time. It just needs to get them out of the house and through the time it takes to put together their more permanent pen. When...

    Concrete floor?

Oh fantastic! Yes, we will do that! Thank you for all your help!! I’m so nervous about upgrading them to outside, but it’s time! Skywalker and Charlie are doing great and so ready for more!

    Concrete floor?

Hi! I know we’re supposed to keep our peachicks “off the ground” for their first few months. Our babies are getting big enough now (6-7weeks old) that we need to move them from the brooder they’ve been in to a larger temporary juvenile housing. To that end, we’re making use of a couple large...

Puny 10 day old peachick with yucky poo and not gaining weight

Charlie is 1 month old today, and Skywalker 6 days older than that. Both chicks have passed 300g now with younger Charlie keeping about a 20g advantage over formerly-puny-but-doing-well-now older Skywalker. Sleepy babies last night. They are hilarious when they see chickens outside!

Puny 10 day old peachick with yucky poo and not gaining weight

@casportpony I was thinking I should update again! Thank you for asking! I think they are doing terrific! Their weigh ins today were Skywalker 111g (up from 39 on 5/14) and Charlie 125g (up from 64g on 5/14). Skywalker is gaining on Charlie! They’re buddies in the brooder, and we definitely...

Puny 10 day old peachick with yucky poo and not gaining weight

Thanks for your continued help! Weigh ins today: Skywalker—42g (so, +3g)—11 days Charlie—71 g (so, +7g)—5 days old Skywalker still has brown liquid diarrhea and developed pasty butt overnight, but I soaked him in some warm water, which he didn’t mind at all, and then cleaned him up with a wet...

Puny 10 day old peachick with yucky poo and not gaining weight

Hi! Thanks! I called, and they have a three week wait list for appointments. They did give me the names of some other vets who see chickens and ducks though. I went to Tractor Supply to look for meds, and the lady there listened and asked a few questions and suggested electrolytes, nutrient...

Puny 10 day old peachick with yucky poo and not gaining weight

I have no idea where to find a peacock vet. Do you have any instructions on what/how to tube feed a tiny peachick? I’m guessing starter feed soaked into a mush? And that I can mix the meds into the mush too? Should I treat fat little Charlie too? They are in brooders next to each other but we...

Puny 10 day old peachick with yucky poo and not gaining weight

Hi! I just pulled a scale out and gave them each a weigh. Skywalker—10 days old—39g Charlie—4 days old—64g So, 25g difference with the younger seriously outweighing the older, and the older with liquidy brown poo. He does otherwise seem in okay spirits today though (since we’ve started...
