    Ducks and hurricane advice please

Our ideal plan is to put them on our screened porch. There's a solid knee wall and my husband got some plywood so no worries about predators. Irma is tracking even further west now, but Jose isn't far behind so I'm sure all these tips will come in handy. Fortunately we have lots of volunteers...

    Ducks and hurricane advice please

Oh my, I never thought about herding them. They're actually used to that because sometimes they like to nap in the middle of the 18th fairway :), and my husband has to get them to a safer place. Yes they are beautiful ducks! It seems we may have dodged the bullet for this storm and it will...

    Ducks and hurricane advice please

Thank you for the advice. Looks like a net will be our best chance so we'll pick one up tomorrow just in case. I doubt if that's a high priority hurricane item so our chances of finding one should be good!

    Ducks and hurricane advice please

Good morning. My husband & I are accidental caretakers of some domestic ducks who were dropped off at our condo community. We've been feeding them for several months, but the golf course who originally took them in has still refused re-homing or shelter possibilities. We feed them twice a day...

    Accidental Magpie caretaker - help!

I will. BTW, I had been lurking on this site for some time before posting and found tons of info on feeding, weather conditions and shelters from actual duck owners. It's a great resource so thank you once again. And the ducks thank you too!

    Accidental Magpie caretaker - help!

If I remember correctly there are 6 males and 3 females. I checked SC DNR a while back. There is something about releasing ducks and hybrids. My main concern with that was not knowing how DNR would handle the situation. We've told many residents about the sad magpie story; maybe a petition...

    Accidental Magpie caretaker - help!

This is where it gets sticky. The golf course is not owned by the condo association. The former duck owner is a friend of the golf course owner. My husband would like me to keep my nose out of this and just make the ducks as comfortable as possible. Hence "the duck police" comment. When the...

    Accidental Magpie caretaker - help!

Thank you so much for the reply. Yes, we do care about "the kids" very much. They have no overnight shelter and sleep between one of the condo buildings and the pond. The building is about 8 feet away from the water. I'm worried sick about predators but have no authority to build anything...

    Accidental Magpie caretaker - help!

The golf course we live on in SC has taken in 9 Magpies. They were dropped off when the owner was moving and couldn't take them with her. My husband & I were worried since we found out these ducks were raised by a human, but all I know about ducks is what I've read on the internet. We've sort...
