Two Year Old Hen not acting right

I give them natural wormers all the time. Her poo looks a little "grainy". I brought her in last night, cleaned her up, and kept her in for the night. She's eating and drinking fine.

Newbie to meat birds needing advice.

Great advice WildfireSmitty. By "flipper" do you mean they die? LOL That's what I'm taking it as. I want to try raising meaties this year. We are thinking of only getting a few (we are small scale and live in the suburbs. lol) for this first attempt. We have laying hens, and live in Michigan. If...

Two Year Old Hen not acting right

Hi all! I'm hoping someone can help me out. One of my 2-year old hens all of a sudden started acting strangely. She is not coming in at night. Stays huddled outside the door. We live in Michigan, so this is not good. Of course we go out and get her and bring her in. When she comes in, she...

How to treat, and when can I return "pecked" hen to the flock?

Thanks :-) She already appears to be at the bottom of the pecking order. And I have a couple of bullies in the flock that are going to go into the freezer as soon as I get prepared for it. They've been mean to a lot of the other hens, but just not to this extent.

How to treat, and when can I return "pecked" hen to the flock?

Hi everyone. Last night I found one of my 20 week old EE's with a nasty wound on her back near her rump. It apparently happened several days ago, because it already has a scab on it. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't actually picked her up to move her because her feathers covered it. I feel...

Combining two groups of chickens - I can't take the stress!!!

Thanks Fiefs20 and DBerryhill! Last night I put the 6 young hens up on the roost after all the older girls where up there. There was a bit of pecking by the closest of the older group, but after I left, they settled down. When I got up this morning to let them out, everyone seemed content. So...

Combining two groups of chickens - I can't take the stress!!!

Fiefs20, How do you introduce them? I have 6-12 week olds that have been in the big coop with the other hens (but in a separate space) where they can see each other, for two weeks now. I think the time has come to join the two groups, but when I've let the younger ones out, a couple of the older...

I think I found a miracle cure for feather picking

Thanks for the info, Azygous. How long do you leave the peepers/bits on? And I'm assuming they are still able to forage with the bits in place?

I think I found a miracle cure for feather picking

Where would I find the bumpa-bits and peepers? I've searched Amazon.com with no luck :-(

I think I found a miracle cure for feather picking

Do you just give them one egg for all six? Or one a piece? Thanks

I think I found a miracle cure for feather picking

Oh Sharon Bee! You've just made my day! This is how my girls are looking...all except TWO who are pristine! I thought I must be a horrible chicken mom to let my babies get like this. Now to figure out what to do to stop it.

How to get hen to stop plucking feathers from others

What do you do if it's multiple chickens plucking feathers out of each other? LOL I've tried adding more protein, they have more than a big enough coop and run area....The ones that are pluckees are also pluckers.

    Help Please!

I have the fluffiest ones separated...my question is how long should I keep them apart? Don't want to cave in to early...or leave them out to long. lol Ahhh the complexities of being mom to hens.

Separate the bully or the bullied?

What if you have more than one bully? Do you separate them all at once?

    Help Please!

The indoor coop is 8'x12' and we are actually going to add onto it this summer. The outdoor run is an odd shaped space. Part of it measures 7'x 12' (this is a covered area so they get a break from the sun :-)) and then they have a 8'x16' space. I live in Michigan, so this winter was a bit hard...
