The only poultry dust I can find around here is Y-Tex Gardstar Garden & Poultry Dust. Is that what people are referring to when they talk poultry dust? I also did find DE. So which would be better for mites?
Ok, so I've read many say to not waste their money on DE.....but what would be better to use for silkies and 1 duck? Not sure if the duck has mites......but they all hang together.
I had to do some traveling from my neck of the woods but did build my first flock of silkies last week between 3 different towns and 2 days. I covered mostly southwest Ohio, and then Indian Lake area. Keep your eye on Craigslist for sure that is how I found everyone, along with one from ebay...
I'm a bit late getting back, as I've been sick. I had no hatches. But, I built my own flock of living beauties by traveling pretty much the entire left side of Ohio :) They are all silkies of varying ages, from 3 days to one being a month old. I have 3 black/blues, 2 whites (which I didn't...
Hard to tell, they were shipped from Florida. I only had 4 eggs out of 13 that were good (and yes, USPS refunded me with no problems) 2 hatched early, but didn't make it and that could have been my own fault with my temp being too high in the brooder, although they had plenty of room to move...
I still have 2 in the incubator. Tomorrow will be day 25. Candleing doesn't show any movement, and float test seemed ok, except the lack of movement in that also, and there is no stink. I think after tomorrow. I will have to call my first a fail.
Thanks mamatink7. I just looked up Meyer Hatchery and they only have white silkies. Since we are wanting them as pets, we'd like different colors so we each can tell them apart better, lol. Out of curiosity does Meyer Hatchery allow you to pick up a chick order?
Hi Buckeyes; I'm Sherry from Newark, OH. Had a bit of a failed first attempt with hatching, had 13 eggs that went through a terrible shipment, ended up with only 4, 2 hatched early but didn't make it...I had the brooding box temp too high thinking the silkies needed to stay at 101. I have 2...
They had been fine except the one had splayed legs and a curled foot, which I took care of and she then started to stand straight up and perky. I was cooking dinner and kept checking on them. The one would be standing straight, the other would be bopping around and both chirping, Then 5...
Ok, so 95 for the silkie chicks? Should I set up in a brooder box instead of the giant aquarium? And if i use a box, do I still turn the lamp down to be 95?
