    Venomous Snake: Friend and Foe

I thought I was the only one dealing with this. The other night about 930pm, i went out to collect eggs and right on top of the eggs (not eating them) there was a copper head. In 4 years of having chickens, chicks, and eggs I've never had a snake in the coop. A few black rat snakes around the...

    Broody hen enclosure

Bantam cochin size birds, did fine with 6 chicks for about 3 weeks in a large dog crate. Something full sized with 6 chicks, I'd go 4 feet by 4 feet minimum and probably only for 2 weeks. I have a lav orpington with 2 chicks and she can't stand to be in her 10 foot x 4 foot run with her week...

    Broody hen enclosure

I've done a few different things to keep a broody in the run with her flock yet separate. 1st go round I simply took a large dog crate, wrapped it with some plastic mesh (so the chicks stayed in it), flipped the bottom tray over and Sat it on top of the crate. This worked well but is not much...

Why are my chicken drinking so much water in a single day?

What is your humidity In your area right now. I know my chickens (8 total) are drinking about 2 gallons every day but our humidity is super low right now. This happens every year in winter for me. Hope this helps a bit.

    Ceramic eggs?

My new layers had no idea where to lay. Added golf balls to the nest boxes, still no idea where to lay. Put a ceramic egg in one box, all of them fight over that one box to lay. Go figure.

Topic of the Week - Moving chicks out of the brooder and into the coop

I personally, can't wait until they are out of the broader. Which incidently, I have all but stopped using thanks to broody hens. I don't not like all the mess that comes with a brooder and healthy chicks/chickens. The constant cleaning and smell is more then my family and I prefer. That said...

    Attaching Hardware Cloth to Metal

Just overlap the hardware cloth 3-6 squares and run the screws through both sections of cloth. I've don't this several times by starting at the top (hardest part) then leaving out the bottom screws until the next section is overlaid. Then just repeat until done. I will say that hardware cloth...
