Okay, I don't think that it actually has more of anything, perhaps it, (what ever it is), is just made more accessible after having gone through the digestiive tract. And that is very possible, which is why I didn't just immediately write it off as a myth.
Now if that subject line is not an attention grabber, I don't know what is. LOL!
But seriously, I was recently told that chickens gain some benefit from eating their own poop. Apparently they gain vitamin B-12 or something from this. Is this really true. I am not finding anything in my...
Ours were in the house as little chicks, to keep them nice and warm until they were hardened off. At about 5 weeks, they went out to the coop and free range nearly every day. We never let them in the house for any reason, they are far too messy. Our dog and cat are the only animals allowed in...
Well, the slide show doesn't seem to work, but if you click on the Chicken Coop link at the top of the page, you can see the individual pics. Looks good.

Good dogs you've got there Jean. But I have to ask you something. You mentioned that you had emus and a donkey running with your herd, but I thought that mules were actually the animal of choice when it comes to protecting a herd from predators, like Coyotes and Cougars. You certainly live...
Amanda,
What a harrowing story, I feel your pain hun. You loved her as no other can and it is difficult when they pass on, no matter how it happened. Instead of thinking of anything new you get as a replacement for her, try thinking about it as a new companion that she would have liked and...
All,
Barb is doing exactly what she felt like she needed to do based on the title of this thread, venting and getting suggestions. Leave it up to her to decide what to do with the suggestions. This venting might just be her "chill pill" too, we don't know.
While I admit, this is perhaps not...
Barb,
You have a very painful situation there and I'm no child therapist or anything like that, but after reading all of what you've said, I'm wondering if your daughter would benefit from you just laying down next to her for a few hours at bedtime each night, in her bed. Spend this time...
I'm not so sure that pecking order is so much a 1,2,3, etc kind of thing. I have 2 roosters and 6 hens and I know that one roo is the alpha, which places him #1 in the pecking order, the second roo is #2, but only one of the pullets appears to have any rank over the others and she isn't really...
I hope everyone with overheated chickens on these hot summer days sees this post. We live in Oregon and are not suffering the heat as many of you are, but I feel your pain. I used to live in Lincoln, NE where those hot and humid summer days could nearly become unbearable. I always felt so bad...
Okay little man, as a father you can take it from me that your Dad certainly doesn't hate you. He may indeed be mad as heck, and may not forgive you for quite some time, it depends on how foolish and avoidable the situation may have been. Parents make judgement calls about their childrens...
Nice going Equine Chick. Don't worry, you aren't alienating your roo, just showing him who is boss. You handled it perfectly. He may sulk for a short time, but he'll be fine. Handle him often to remind him you are the master, but that you appreciate him and all he does.
Best of purpose,
Mike
What a strange thing to happen, and very unfortunate! Look at it this way, there are more bright days than dark days. Keep your chin up and things will be fine. Don't ever give up. The chickens need you.
