Nope. One hen sat for the first 30-33 days and when nothing hatched, this hen took over and she has been sitting for almost four weeks. I candled her eggs and took all the duds about a week and a half ago. All her current eggs are almost fully dark inside.
I have a guinea that’s been sitting on a nest. I candled the eggs beneath her and it appears that they are extremely close to hatch, maybe 2-4 days. Yesterday and today she has been getting off the nest more frequently and longer periods of time. Is that normal close to hatch? I’ve always heard...
Update: I candled a few of the eggs my girl has been sitting on and there are six close to hatch! I can’t believe it. A miracle. However, I have noticed she has been getting off the nest more. Today she was off the longest I’ve seen yet! Is this normal behavior close to hatch? It’s odd! She’s...
Terrific. Do you think I should toss and get the next batch in there or give this a chance? I don’t want them with severe birth defects even if they do make it.
Mortified. Came home and realized the curtains next to the incubator was open and the sun was hitting it directly, it’s beeping like crazy and it said the temperature was 116 degrees! Are all these eggs done? They were very warm to the touch borderline hot! I got the temp down to 103 so far but...
Came home today to see the curtains by the incubator open, so it was in direct sunlight, and the internal temperature was reading 116. I’ve got it down to 103 but it was probably up that high for 2-3 hours. Is this a lost cause?
So I’m assuming that other hens continued to lay in her nest when I thought they were just “co-sitting” because I had to toss many dead eggs that had developed to approx three weeks. I guess they somehow got pushed out from under her and got cold. The ones underneath her are at about two weeks...
Hi! Thanks for checking in. I bit the bullet and got an incubator. When she got off the nest to eat I grabbed about 25. I tossed the duds and stuck any maybes in the incubator. Will be candling those again before the week is over. I did see a few I left under her with dark masses so I’m hoping...
I do not have an incubator set up but I could get one ASAP if that’s the better route to take. She’s sitting on 40 eggs but because of the carrier she is they’re almost all covered at all times.. but eggs are on top of each other. My temps have been 80-95 but did drop down to 65 while she was...
Oh dear. Thats what I thought but I was told if the eggs were a little older or the temperature was fluctuating they could take longer to hatch. She was sitting on about 40 but because of the carrier she’s in she’s covering almost all at any given time. Unless being under her tail feathers...
Hi! My girl went broody full time on 6/5. She should have hatched keets last Saturday. I was told to give her a week longer. At what point do I force her off? At what point do I have to worry about exploding eggs? I candled a bunch but they all seem like they’re at different stages but a couple...
I did but was just told to separate and let it rest. It seems to have slept on that toenail bent back repeatedly leading it to bend all the way backwards. The toe is either big from infection or inflammation. What can I give it for the pain?
