    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

Sad to report that the little duckling with the bad leg did not make it. I tried bringing it in, warming it up, giving it water, but it wouldn't drink or move. At least it died tucked under my shirt nice and warm and snuggled instead of out in the pasture alone! The others are all doing well and...

    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

Thought I would update you all. I put 26 ducklings from 3 batches in with this one mom. She is able to cover them all and it hasn’t been cold here at night. I put a paint pan in for them to swim in. This morning I noticed one of 6 with another hen that hatched 4 days ago had a limp. I know that...

    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

Well, next year my birth control will be picking up eggs every day! I put a paint tray in the chicken tractor today so the little ones can swim and be able to get out easily. They love it! Thanks for all of the help.

    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

I need some guidance regarding whether to move the next batch WITH their mom to the tractor. I feel like it would be fine since now different moms and batches hang right together without issue. It won't work with just one mom as the newest little ones will need warmth.

    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

There is still another big batch running loose with their mom and another with 4. There are 5 sitting on eggs right now. Obviously, next year I will know to pick up their eggs as they lay them. Never having had ducks before I didn't know they would lay so many! There is still loads of room in...

    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

I just spent an hour wrangling up one batch that have 12 and two from another duck. I got the mom that goes with the 12, but the mom that goes with the two got away! They are slippery devils! I put the one mom and the 14 babies in my chicken tractor pictured above. The other mom is hanging...

    Help protecting MANY ducklings!

I rescued 25 Muscovies and Rouens last year. This spring there are many nests. 2 nests hatched 4 and 8. Those have all disappeared one by one. The moms were not great and didn’t watch them closely. Those were Rouen moms. Now 3 Muscovies have hatched batches of 4, 11, and 14. My dilemma is.... do...

Help with 31 rescued Muscovy ducks

Thanks for all of your advice. I am in Iowa so I'm guessing they are done laying. I did have them for awhile during warm weather so maybe at the bottom of the pond! I read in Story's Guide that he feeds his boiled potatoes (as they grow lots for sale). I get veggies every Monday from a local...

Help with 31 rescued Muscovy ducks

I have many other types of animals but these are my first ducks. The owner died suddenly of a heart attack and friends found homes for his animals. I got 30 ducks and one goose. Most are Muscovy, two Pekin, two Roen. The friends think they were laying eggs at the man's farm. I have had them now...
