    We haven't had a half inch of rain since Christmas and it doesn't look like we will get any this year. Two years ago we went 11 months and 5 days without a drop, oh well. I live in the Big Bend in Marathon.

    That's the reason I have Buff Minorcans- I live in the Chihuahun Desert, and that breed originated on a Mediterranean island where it reaches 130F ground temperature. I would think that the breeds originated in England and the NE USA would not do so well in heat.

    One reason I got the Minorcans is that they can handle the desert heat with no problems. Mine were born Mayday- when can i start giving them vegetable scraps from the table? They are on chick starter feed now.

    I asked the local feed store to get them for me- I don't know the name of the hatchery. There are only 1200 breeding flocks of these in the world. That's why they are on the UN species watch.
