Here is my Cream Legbar egg which is light blue with a darker blue stripe all the way around. Have drilled holes and dried it out and ah, ate the inside, delicious!

Cream Legbar egg with blue belted egg

file:///Users/leefifield/Desktop/DSC01232.jpg My 3 Cream Legbars are approx 6 months old and have been laying every other day one egg, found 2 soft ones on floor a while back, and then they seem to have settled on laying in the box, this morning, for the first time, 2 warm eggs in the box...

    Sudden overnight crooked tail

Yes, I believe this is a case of "Wry Tail", very unfortunate but she is a dear thing and I hope she will lead a good quality life. I wonder if the gene pool for Bielefelder Chickens is still too small and this may have contributed to it. The people I bought her and her sister from know nothing...

    Sudden overnight crooked tail

HELP! I went out this morning with my 2 Bielefelders (12 weeks old) morning watermelon, and instead of jumping my lap, they acted frightened and looked anxiously toward the tunnel which goes out to a covered run, they are in a building. They are eating medicated chick crumbles, and a bit of...

Can a coop be too light?

Thanks for all the comments. These 2 Bielefelders I have are just so neat and the first chickens I have ever had, so I am learning quite a bit. I can say, they don't have to be worried about anything overhead or tunneling under, the inside and outside is under roof, the inside obviously and the...

Can a coop be too light?

My 10 week old pullets, 2 of them, sleep huddled in a corner, I put a box with shaving in the corner and a board over it, they seem to want to be "under" something. I am now starting to think, after looking at other inside coops that mine is designed wrong. The coop is 17 feet long by about 6...

    How to PREVENT bumblefoot??

Last night I started searching around and managed to find a thread on "Bumblefoot prevention" and it actually addressed my question as to whether using pelleted bedding would be helpful and it was said to be great stuff over and over. Some seemed to think you had to use a special brand meant for...

    How to PREVENT bumblefoot??

I am with you, but no one has replied to my bumblefoot questions either, like; why not put in wood stove pellets? I did with my donkeys, spray it with water and it falls to nice soft absorbent sawdust, what would be bad about that for bedding? I spray Vetricyn on every few days just in case too.

what about a dog or cat bed warmer? I have concrete floors covered with cardboard and then pine shavings, (thinking about wood stove pellets broken down by watering to sawdust, but no one will tell me if this is ok for bedding). My 2 pullets who are 11 weeks old will eat nothing but their chick...

    Bumblefoot Prevention

Being a new chicken owner with 2 10 week old Bielefelders, I am wondering if there is some strategies to prevent Bumblefoot? I get that soft bedding is important, I have concrete floors INSIDE that I line with cardboard boxes (just moved here have a years supply at least) covered by the large...
