HIGHLY unlikely that it’s a vagrant since their nearest range is Iceland. But that’s why I’m asking because it would be really cool if it is a wild bird!
They started laying January 25th, and I'm averaging 14 eggs a day. But my call ducks (who usually start laying mid-january) aren't laying. This is really messing up my incubator schedule because I planned on the ducks first, and then they would be about done laying when the quail started...
I thought it was march or april? Imagine my surprise when I found two eggs in the pen today. Unseasonably warm weather in Ohio, but what is going on here? Haven't had any eggs from my call ducks yet but my bobs are laying ??
I dont think it matters. Ive caught snakes with new eggs and old eggs. You have to remember though that not all snakes go for eggs. I have two milk snakes in my front yard that i cant catch. I've kind of grown fond of them, their names are Maggie and Marty.
No I didn't cut it at all. They can't seem to figure out how to get out of it. First time I put it out I caught 9 snakes in 3 weeks in my front garden beds.
UPDATE on these bands: NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL!!
After being on for only 4 months, the ones on my ducks had the numbers wear off completely, and the ones on my chickens are becoming brittle and cracking off. Worst bands I've ever tried!
Thanks for the reply, always good to get advice from others. I will check that app out, will be good to have something to help me keep it straight. Of course, the late hatchers always mess up the timing, lol
I have two brinsea octo 20 adv. incubators and I'm considering staggering my hatches by using one to incubate and one to hatch. I'm thinking I will set one row of eggs at a time and then move them to the "hatcher" for lockdown.
Benefits: eggs will be fresher, I'll have a constant rotation of...
Now you REALLY got me wondering. Frostbite? Vitamin deficency? I have no idea. I googled it and it seems fairly common, but nobody has an answer as to why they fall off.
One of my silkies just hatched some call duck eggs for me. I put 5 under her, 4 developed, and she hatched all 4. Way better percentage than my incubator. I didn't touch them after I put them under her. So I would say no you do not need to mist them.
