Ok, I'm embarrassed to even say this! But for some reason I'm horribly squeamish about eating our eggs. I used to eat eggs almost every day and now I can barely eat them. I keep trying to make them and eat them but I feel like I can barely choke them down no matter how I make them, my gag reflex...
Help! My chickens are suddenly turning mean! Normally I'll go in and they'll gather around me wanting food, sometimes one will follow me clucking softly or try to peck at a bucket or basket in my hand. I have one rooster and he's tried twice to ruffle his feathers at me, but I yelled at him and...
My poor Stripe fell off the roost and broke her neck last night :( I feel so bad, they've been roosting on the small ledge super high up next to the wall of the coop instead of the roost we built. I was going to build a real roost up high to make it safer but I was too late. :( I didn't think...
It's still not totally done, but here is my coop as of now! Still need to add another window and some more vents.

For an economical coop have you considered pallets? That's what we were...
Keltara, your coop is really nice! I was thinking about using plastic tubs as nesting boxes too, for easier clean up. Is there a reason most people use wood?
'Whatdidido', what is a hopper bin?
I'm excited! I will be able to start my coop tomorrow. I am converting a lean to that we are currently using for horses. My husband built the horses a new shelter, and our tin order will arrive tomorrow, so as soon as we get the roof up we can start converting the old shed! I'll be adding some...
Thank you, I get it now. I was mainly trying to figure out if there was a roost or building for them to escape to, if they would but it seems they won't. If I want to free range them though, there really isn't any other option than to accept the risks I suppose. My dogs keep most predators away...
