Thank you all for your responses.
Pepper just passed away and I am heartbroken. She seemed comfortable after her warm soak and us draining some of the fluid. She perked up for a bit and even ate a blueberry for me. She laid down and slept for a few hours. I woke her up to give her an antibiotic...
So I decided to drain Peppers water belly today. The fluid is very dark (see pic) Does this mean something other than ascites? What antibiotics can I give her? She seems to have some relief after we drained her...I’m hoping we can give her more time
Thank you!! We love Ms Pepper and don’t want to see her get worse. For now she is acting normal but her bum looks very concerning. We will give it time. I wish there was a way to know sooner when they are getting sick
Thank you so much I don’t want our sweet girl to suffer. For now she is still foraging with the flock and eating. I’ll keep a close eye on her behaviors and hopefully the detox will help give her some relief.
Thank you all for your responses. She is walking around and hanging with her lady friends like she is ok, but her bum still looks so bad. This is after a warm soak and massage today. What else can I do for her!
Pepper was given to us so I’m not certain of her age. I’m guessing she’s about 4-5. I’ve never been certain what eggs are hers...
I’ve posted pictures of her bum. For the most part she is acting normal, just laying down more. Occasionally I’ve seen her with her tail feathers down.
She has loose watery poop, however normal poo is also stuck to her bum. I did an internal check to feel for the egg. I did feel something but I’m not positive it’s an egg. She is an older hen and I’ve never been certain that she is laying. She has been separated from the flock for two days now...
My hen has a swollen abdomen. It’s warm to the touch and feels kind of hard. I’ve checked to see if I can feel an egg but I can’t. I’ve also soaked her in warm water. She’s been like this for almost a week now. What can I do for her??
My hen has a bald raw spot above her tail feathers. It’s been there for a month now. Last night I noticed our rooster has something similar on his neck. I assumed the hens spot is because of mating. Any idea what is causing this??
