    Adopted Ducklings??

My friend has a duck hen that has been trying and trying to hatch eggs with no success. I have had chicken hens in this predicament who refused to stop being broody. My solution was to buy chicks at a farm store and at night, after hens are settled, I switch the eggs under them out with the...

    Releasing Pheasant

It's illegal to keep them penned without a license here. I didn't know that until I researched it. Hopefully they will stick to the woods/pasture......our woods is connected to woods that go on for miles. Plus, my husband is against penning them thus adding to my chores every...

    Releasing Pheasant

There's plenty of cover behind the pen the pigs are in.....our woods. We have a pasture behind that. The neighbors on either side of us have ponds and there is a corn field and then a creek beyond our pasture. I'll release in the woods and toss feed out every morning.

    Releasing Pheasant

I was sure my cats wouldn't bother them, they've never bothered my chickens, fully grown or chicks, ever. In fact, my barn cats are afraid of my chickens, lol. But I'm going to do my best to be sure the pheasant are safe and secure for a bit before actually releasing them. Would a few days...

    Releasing Pheasant

We are getting 30. I have a dog kennel with a wire top that is also partially covered with tarp. I'll have to repair a couple of spots, but I could put them in there. I'd just forget getting them, but they are going to be released by someone whether it's me or not. I'm sure a lot of the...

    Releasing Pheasant

So would it be better to just release them into the woods? I don't care if they fly away, just want them to have a chance at survival. The "pen" my pigs are in is about 96' x 96'.

    Releasing Pheasant

Hi! Our local fish and game club, of which we are members, has been raising pheasant all summer. They are giving the pheasant out to members to release on their own properties. My husband and I are planning on getting some and first releasing them into our huge fenced area our 2 pot belly...

    Chick Behavior

I will post pics tomorrow if I get time. My problem is that I love roosters as much, sometimes MORE than my hens. It's going to be difficult if I have to cull.

    Chick Behavior

I recently bought 14 chicks from a farmer and his wife who have a beautiful set up and gorgeous chickens. They also gave me 4 18- month old hens for free! Most of the chicks I picked out are buff or buff-laced orpingtons with a few australorp thrown in for different color.....I love a variety...

    Sand for Kennel Substrate

Thank you! I had no idea the sand would stink! I'm so glad I asked before buying sand......wood chips are so much lighter weight, lol!

    Sand for Kennel Substrate

I have a 6' x 8' covered dog kennel attached to my chicken coop. My chickens free range all day, but they can access the kennel if they want any time and some chickens actually roost on sawhorses in the kennel at night. I have most of the kennel covered with heavy tarps and am going to fully...

    Roos or Hens?

It's ok, live and learn. I just got rid of 4 roosters myself.

    Roos or Hens?

I was pretty sure they were. I feel bad for my daughter in law, she was positive they were hens as chicks because the person selling them "sexed" them for her. Basically, they just wanted to make a sale.
