My Buff Opington sounds identical to that. Such a good breed, I like all of my birds but if I could do it again I would certainly consider a pure Buff flock.

    Barred Rock Hen or Rooster?

That's a good idea, I may explore that option. I just posted an add on craigslist so hopefully it will go pretty fast. I would definitely keep him, he's one of my favorites I am just too close to neighbors with the noise.

    Barred Rock Hen or Rooster?

I am unsure of the age of it, the person I bought it from was also unsure so i guess it's kind of up in the air on that. I am just having some anxiety that this is a rooster, I am new to all of this and have a tough time telling. The saddle feathers appear to be rounded as opposed to pointed as...

    Paint/Stain fumes affect on chickens?

The treated pine is definitely pretty moist through and through, it has been baking in the sun for a while and appears to be dry but I'm positive there is still some moisture in there. I was also thinking in terms of appears and just trying to weigh my options. I'm thinking that some green roof...

    Paint/Stain fumes affect on chickens?

Yeah, it sure seems like just about anything I'd want to use would be harmless. I had high doubts that there would be any issues, just wanted to make sure that there weren't any unknowns that haven't yet discovered with chickens and fumes. I appreciate your input though Hokum.

    Paint/Stain fumes affect on chickens?

Point taken! New to all this and don't want to make any dumb mistakes if I can help it.

    Paint/Stain fumes affect on chickens?

How much, if any do you all think the fumes from paint and/or stain affect the health of chickens inside the coop? I just built my coop with treated pine and would like to add a coat of either paint or stain for extra protection from the weather. I wish I would have painted everything and let it...

Please help me identify these two

Alright cool! They had their alleged pullets and cockerels separated but by making a quick assessment of the place I would not be surprised the least if some of them got mixed in together. There are definitely many new, small feathers growing in but I will try to aid with some more protein if...

Please help me identify these two

Thanks for that photo Johnn! That does look like a pretty accurate assumption, I actually had not heard of that breed in my small amount of research thus far, so that is an interesting consideration and a pretty chicken.

Please help me identify these two

Yea, they were all mixed up so I was sure they were basically mutts, which doesn't bother me or anything. About the brown one with the tail feathers, I did not even notice until I got her home and began looking them over more thoroughly. That picture is from the first day I got them and she has...

Please help me identify these two

I just bought these two supposed hens from a big breeder. They were in a pen with probably around 50 others and I basically had to point them out as they ran buy to indicate which two I wanted. I was told that they were both laying hens around 8 months old, which even with my limited knowledge...
