    Egg bound?

I’m not sure if this is what happened or not, I thought I’d ask here for a more experienced viewpoint. Our white leghorn Louise laid her first egg today, but she had problems. The egg wasn’t clearing her vent although it was right there at the vent and ready to come out. There was a small...

    Top Hen?

What are some recommendations for what to look for to see who’s the top hen in a flock? i need to update my profile I guess to list the flock members instead of posting them constantly I guess, lol. We have a Silkie roo, two Speckled Sussex hens, two White Leghorn hens, a Rhode Island Red hen...

    Finally! Uhhh.. Eggsperts?

It isn’t much of a comb. And Tiny only crows when Silky is crowing.

    Finally! Uhhh.. Eggsperts?

We also have two Rhode Island Reds as well, but they are two months younger than the other six chickens. I doubt it is them.

    Finally! Uhhh.. Eggsperts?

We finally have eggs! I skipped checking the nesting boxes yesterday, and then I cleaned out the coop this evening and found these. Very excited, but I am not sure who laid them exactly. We have 2 white leghorns, 2 speckled sussex, a silkie (who turned out to be a roo), and a bantam silver...

    Silkie Roo or Hen?

And he’s still my absolute favorite out of the bunch, despite My being a little disappointed about not being a girl as I was originally hoping!

    Silkie Roo or Hen?

The crowing is no longer the only thing that makes my question of gender no longer much of a question. Silky (I know, not terribly original for a name yet he now responds to it and knows we are talking about him when we say it) is now leading them to the coop at night fall, in and out to check...

    Silkie Roo or Hen?

I sure was hoping for a broody mama, but it’s okay. How are silkie roosters with a flock? Never really read up on that one, lol.
