Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try to set up an "obstacle course" for them to play on.
As far as evidence - every night when I go out to the coop some of the hens have red backs (near the tail feathers). And sometimes they're bloody. The hen problem mostly started right before we got rid of...
Hi everyone! I am having a pecking problem that seems to be growing. It started with the roo (he was the only one getting pecked), but we recently got rid of both roosters - now it seems to be moving to other hens.
Let me give you any background I can to make help easier.
We currently have 20...
I have a rooster who started getting pecked about a month ago - I assumed by the Alpha rooster. We've been applying Blu-Kote, but it's not helping. His butt is bare and pretty raw. Interestingly enough, the only chicken w/ blood and/or blu-kote on their beak is the "victim" rooster. Could it be...
Thanks for everyone's replies.
I will try to return the feed - nothing has been opened and get the layer crumbles because I'm fairly certain it is medicated. I hadn't thought of that before!
You don't know how helpful y'all have been in answering all of my questions - I really appreciate it...
First of all, I'm new to raising chickens and fairly new to BYC (y'all helped me with some rooster problems a few weeks ago - thanks!).
I apologize for not obeying the cardinal rule of msg boards and searching through the threads for answers - I've got a toddler who won't "let" me.

Thanks everyone for all of the help! This chicken raising stuff is very new to me (though I grew up on a cattle ranch).
I was worried when I posted yesterday and instantly got a lot of helpful responses. Thank you for that!
I'm still learning about everything (mostly from this forum) and...
Glad to hear I'm not the only one this has happened to. We werent able to unwind it because it was on tight and looped around - but cutting the loop freed it. It just took a while for the rest of the string to fall off.
He's looking better tonight - acting his normal self. What a day!
I never knew there was so much to know about chickens! This is our first time owning them - we're having fun, except when stuff like this happens! I just hate to see them in any kind of pain.
I do have some tupperware containers - perhaps I'll bring him inside (maybe along with the rooster...
We just went outside and checked on him. I held him while my husband opened his beak. His tongue looks okay - there wasnt any evidence of the string. I'm sure he's going to be sore (I have no idea how long he was tied up) - that may be why he wasn't eating the lettuce.
I need to find a dog...
Hi All!
I am new to BYC (though I've lurked for several months). This morning I went out to the coop to check on a rooster that had been pecked (I got Blu Kote this morning) only to discover that another rooster was lying on the ground with a string (that was attached to the coop door) tightly...
