we haven't had any chicks this past year so i hadn't been on here. next year, we're hoping to have our backyard back in order again to get more chicks. it'll be nice to get back into the chicks again.

    my hens aren't brooding

i have 4 hens (2 mystic onyx and 2 dang it the name escapes me but they look orangish red) with 2 sapphire roosters. even the roosters are 2 different sapphire breeds. well anyway, none of the 4 hens are sitting on the eggs. it's like they lay an egg, maybe sit for a few hours then they get...

    How to manage two roosters?

we have 2 roosters with 4 hens and they all seem to get along fine. they all grew up together. from time to time, i notice our roosters chasing each other and 1 might peck at the other, but it's not any worse than that. they both crow, 1 seems louder than the other, maybe that has something...

    Winter thread:Chickens

where we are, we have the run area wrapped in several tarps, but at the top of these tarps there's an opening. where the entry door to the run area is, we have a tarp that you can unhook to open up, especially on days when it doesn't snow or when the temps are really cold. the top of the run...

    black/green runny poop, not smelly

earlier today i saw black runny piles, but when i went out to get pictures all i saw was that green pile. the others were black black. i couldn't find any of those piles to get pictures of them so i don't know what happened to those black piles. also i've seen normal solid poop from them...

    black/green runny poop, not smelly

i noticed today that i think it might be 1 of the roosters doing it that there are some piles of black runny looking poop. it's not smelling at all so i'm still not sure if it would be cecal poop and i'm not sure if a rooster would do cecal poop. well all our chickens go in and our of their...

    what breed rooster is this?

yes both roosters came from TSC in the sapphire gem bin. we thought we were getting hens from there and then we found out when they grew bigger that they were indeed roosters. we would have liked to have hens for the eggs, but this actually killed 2 birds with 1 stone cause we had planned on...

    what breed rooster is this?

it's my understanding sapphire gems are already mixed as it is, so are you saying he might not be a sapphire gem even if he's mixed?

    what breed rooster is this?

i'm not sure. my husband and i were sure we had 2 different breeds cause of that feature. i wasn't even sure they were sapphire gems cause of the way they looked. that's why i figured i'd ask on here what they were.

    what breed rooster is this?

it was hard to get 1 cause he kept moving. i took pics of both of them so you can see the difference in the heads. if you still need a better picture of the 1 with the feathers on top his head, let me know and i'll try again.

    what breed rooster is this?

i'm assuming the crest you're talking about is the group of feathers on top his head behind the comb.... this 1 had that and the other rooster that has the same basic coloring as him with less brown didn't have those feathers so i wasn't sure if they were both still sapphire gems.

    what breed rooster is this?

ok then it's seeming that both i'm being told are sapphire gems. does it matter if 1 has feathers on top his head behind his comb and the other doesn't?
