We’ve had at least three pairs of mallards visiting our yard/ducks for the last few weeks. They swim in our pond and hang around most of the day. We’ve enjoyed having them around, but I’ve been concerned they might get too comfortable and try to nest here (one of our dogs eats every egg he...
I had to remove a portion of my drake’s phallus, as well. I’m linking to the post in hopes it can help you. It seems scary, but it’s not difficult at all. You can do it!

Hi, all! I have some concern about our Pekin, Eggy. Several weeks ago, I went outside to put the ducks away for the evening and noticed her wing was dragging and she was unable to move it at all. I had a friend who is a vet tech come by and look at it and she did a video call with her...
Also, to update this thread- I finally figured out what caused the odor/taste in the eggs! It was the canola oil cooking spray I used, weirdly enough. I cooked the eggs with butter and the smell was gone. Been using butter ever since and there has been nothing off about the eggs.
The outside of the yolk is white? That’s so strange. Is it when raw or cooked? We noticed something similar the other day, but with our hard boiled Easter eggs. Our yolks are always yellowish orange, inside and out, but for some reason the outsides turned a pale yellow/whitish color once hard...
Oh, yeah. Good point about the flu. Ducks are typically just carriers, but I read recently that it was discovered in a flock of domestic ducks and, even though the ducks weren’t exhibiting symptoms, they euthanized the entire flock anyway out of concern it would spread. I definitely don’t want...
Oh, how cute! We’ve had tons of rain lately and our ducks have had a blast splashing around in the puddles. They get as muddy as possible, then rinse off in their pond, which has been making our pump and filters work overtime.
It shouldn’t be, but I find it so strange that the wild ducks won’t...
That’s amazing! The only wildlife we get around here are squirrels and small birds. That’s why we’re so happy our duck visitors came back. There are a few cranes at the local pond, but we rarely see them.
Last spring, we had visitors. Two male and one female mallard. They would come by our house every night, as the sun was starting to set, peek at our ducks through the fence, and then meander through all the neighbors’ yards before eventually flying home. Their home is a large pond in a public...
Hey! Glad you’re here. I should have sent you the link to it but forgot in all the hubbub (not sure that’s a word?). It’s sad to me that this is the way things have turned out. You should not have had to apologize to anyone for being concerned and should never have dealt with the horrible...
You are being incredibly condescending and judgmental, yourself. Angel wing typically causes the wings to stick out at an unnatural angle. The WH’s wing is dragging at her side, which seems to me to indicate injury. Either way, it needs to be evaluated and that is the responsibility of the...
Agreed. I’m glad it went through the sheriff. Thank you for checking back the comments in the original post. I stopped checking them after switching to a private chat with the OP and missed a few comments of hers. She seems very nervous about the whole thing, so I hope she hasn’t gotten herself...
