ILT is Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) is an acute, highly contagious, herpesvirus infection of chickens and pheasants characterized by severe dyspnea, coughing, and rales. It can also be a subacute disease with nasal and ocular...
I think ILT. One chick had a distinctive gulping. It was definitely virus, not environmental. I am just starting my chicken family and didn't want birds that were always sick or could make new birds sick. It's a sad thing, but part of farm life. Educating myself better now.
The one died, another started wheezing, the rest sneezing and continued to declined. I culled them unfortunately. I won't buy off Craigslist again. Only buy from NPIP breeders.
I picked up 5 Cochins to start my flock, 3 weeks old, I have no other birds yet. One sneezed the first day, then 3 the next day. One isn't doing well, I'm thinking ILT because of the gasping throat thing he is doing. He eats, drinks, plays but sneezing is more violent now, head shaking, and the...
I sure would like to see pictures of someone in their duck pond teaching the baby ducks how to swim, in fact, video tape it please, LOL.

Yes, my 4 month old are in the coop and have access to the ground/dirt. And I brought the new chicks home about 2 weeks ago as week olds. Again, the chicks are inside in a brooder and the chickens are outside in a coop. They were not together ever but being Fl it has been in the 70's past few...
Yes, my 4 months old have been here since hatching and have been in their coop for 2-3 months and before that in the brooder. This is hitting them very quick. Yesterday everyone was fine in the am and one was dead by the evening(talking about the older guys). But everyone else looked really good...
Well more bad news. My chickens that were no where near my brooder where the sick chickens are now sick. All of them. So this is very contagious and can be transmitted by not washing your hands when touching one chicken to the next I am assuming. Thats the only way mine caught this. None could...
I lost another three yesterday. For a total of 5. I have four left that are doing very well and so far look great. No diarrhea or bloody poop. I used the Corid and cleaned the poop out of the pen about every two hours. Hopefully we are on our way to recovery. None of my other animals are sick...
Hello,
My Runners just started laying the other day. There are three eggs so far. I am up in the air about letting her sit her eggs(if she will) or to put them in the incubator. Any ideas and tips? Thanks, Laura
I am in FL and I think it got up to 70 today. My GL are outside all the time(they are 4 months old) but I never let them out of the coop and pen. So I tried it today and let them in the yard. They didn't seam to enjoy it too much, they just kept trying to get back in. LOL. Good luck with the...
I am new to chickens and have learned the hard way about Coccidiosis. I have lost three chicks all ready and need help to prevent losing any more. They have the bloody looking diarrhea so I suspect Coccidiosis. Will regular medicated chick feed work or do I need a stronger antibiotic and if so...
