I got my ducks last spring at my local Fur and Feather. All last year they spent most of their time hanging around the barn and outside of it. However, this year the ducks waddle all over the place. Which leads me to my question: We have a herd of cows and they are kept in by the electric fence...
That is an excellent house! Hopefully you dont have Muscovies they dont herd like runners they more or less just scatter in any direction possible. I would Try feeding them inside... it is much easier to lure than to force!
Thank you for your help. I guess they have figured it out because they really started eating and drinking today. If you would like pictures i will get you some there very cute.
I had a nest of muscovies hatch yesterday. The weather was not great so the hen ended up forgetting two in her nest. Ive got them in a small bucket with a light for heat. So my question is does anyone know any tricks to get them to eat and drink? Storeys Guide says to put fine grass on it. Other...
She'll be on the nest for atleast 30 days but will come out for an hour or so a day to eat, drink and clean herself. Also i wouldnt worry about it being to late I live in the great white north and i expect to have ducklings hatch this week.
4 dollars a duck is a FANTASTIC deal I buy and sell my for ten. I agree with dianaross77 to avoid the older male he will have the upper hand if you get a few drakes when they start to mature.
Ive got Males and Females that have green tints in their wings. If you have a drake he will get bigger alot faster. The hen should be only 2/3 the size after 3 weeks. Also the drake will also not feather as fast as the hens.
If you can get into the nest you can "float" the eggs in warm water if their good they will float because the air pocket they have made the bad ones will sink
you should be ok as long as she sits on them my group of hens ive got didnt hatch until the snow started coming in the middle of November. So i think the should hatch
I reckon that should easily big enough the door sugested would be an excellent add on. If you could mount the house on skies or something and move it around so you could hose of the poop and stuff would workinstead of scooping shavings evey couple of days
