Being inside city limits, I'm not jumping at any opportunity to get the rifle out. However, I will not let said species set up shop around the chickens. I do not pursue them, hunt them, track them or even follow them, but if I see them in the yard, they better be faster than my blue heeler...
My barred rocks seem to tolerate the heat better than the others, but they are a bit bossy... They are the first to go after treats and are everyday layers, even in 100+ degree heat. I don't think they'll ever have to worry about prolonged periods of cold weather. On a side note, our golden...
The golf balls worked for me... It seems once your first girl lays in there, the others follow suit. We have five hens and they all use the same box (even when they have a few choices), and sometimes at the same time!
We have a five month old RIR rooster named King Feo. In the last several weeks he's become much more "interested" in his females. The problem is, the don't seem to have the same "feelings". He really roughs them up, and now his favorite ladies are starting to bear the bald patches of his...
I found a really good idea on this forum.. I made some raised beds out of cedar boards (roughly 3' x 5). I covered the top of them with quarter inch hardware cloth. I threw in some organic compost and bird seed, gave it a little water and now they have a couple grass beds that they can pick...
looks a lot like my australorp chick (although being a hatchery australorp, I guess it could be closer to the black sex-link) i'm a first time chicken owner, so my breadth of knowledge is limited at best...
This is Borracho/Borracha, because he/she continuously fell asleep on its face during the first few weeks in the brooder. (borracho means drunkard in spanish). She/He is almost 2 months. Any guesses??
just in case anyone was still following this post, here is a few pictures of the EE in question. I'm pretty sure she's a pullet, but what do I know... Any guesses... She/He is definitely a pretty bird regardless...
would he be trying to mate at 7 weeks, or more like practicing? i have a barred rock who might or might not be a cockerel as well, and they seem to get along... Punky, seeing as you've got rocks (which are quite beautiful heritage birds and mine are hatchery), do the males carry the...
Grettings ya'll. I've been lurking around on BYC for a while now, and definitely wouldn't have had such an easy time acquiring and raising my birds thus far without all the info on here... I have one cockerel (RIR) who is constantly picking on my EE. He seems to enjoy and care about all the...
