I thought my chicken was ill - she had removed herself from the others, was looking depressed, not eating or drinking with the others - then I found a huge egg in the coop and she is back to normal again. Has anyone else had this experience?
Thanks for your reply - will check this evening. I've noticed quite a few of her feathers in the coop this morning. I just want her to be a happy chicken again! xx
Hi - one of my chickens has stopped laying and seems to be separating herself from the others. She looks depressed! She is the top of the pecking order and laid enormous eggs before her behaviour changed. I have seen her eating and drinking etc. and will dust bath with the second in command...
Mine come running to me now because they associate me with treats like mealworms and corn! They are happy to eat out of my hand but not that keen on being picked up and stroked. Use food to worm your way into their affection!
No - I don't think ours will moult until next year - our neighbour is a bit of an oracle on chicken keeping as he's been doing it for a few years and has 17 now - he reckons that they won't moult in the first year.He keeps different varieties of pure breeds, not hybrids like ours and some of...
That's where we got our chickens - a couple of people I know recommended Matt. A friend of mine did have to take one of her chickens back as it kept going for the other ones - sounds like your Amber Rock. Are they all laying ok?
Oh dear - it sounds like she has a personality disorder! Did you get them all at the same time from the same place? I've been helping my neighbour out for a couple of years, looking after his chickens when he goes on holiday (that's what prompted us to get our own) and I know when he...
Mine won't eat the pellets if the rain makes them mushy but even with a rain hat, the feeder still gets wet - I'm amazed that chickens are such fussy eaters!
Hi - the nest boxes are close to the roosting area - it's definitely the Columbian Blacktail doing it (she did it again today) but she's not broody- I think she's trying to get the Amber Rock to drop her eggs in the right place!
Hi,
I've just joined and noticed you have the same combination of chickens as we have. Did the pecking order sort itself out? Our Amber Rock is the most laid back of the three.
Hi - I'm pretty new to keeping chickens - we got three at the end of the summer and they're doing well. I always leave the eggs for my daughter to collect when she gets home but I noticed the other day that there were 2 eggs in the coop (where they roost) yet later on there were 2 in the...
