    Natural Feeding Rabbits

The things I can forage are limited to weeds, yard grass and maple trees/leaves. I live in town so there isnt a huge variety. I'm looking to plant as much as I can though, herbs, squash/pumpkins, root vegetables, fresh veggies. Especially things that can be stored over winter for the rabbits...

    Natural Feeding Rabbits

My purpose is to get them off of pellets if possible. I have a few sorces where I've read about feeding seeds, and I feed BOSS myself during the winter. They would need a salt mineral block as they would be lacking, as that is typically in pellets. I have 8 rabbits at the moment with plans to...

    Planning Rabbit Garden

So I'm currently brainstorming ideas for a garden that will mostly feed my rabbits, though we will be eating some of it as well. I'm very interested in food that stores well over winter at room temp/coolish temps. I have two attic closets that stay very cool (but not freezing) that I can use to...

    Natural Feeding Rabbits

Hello, I was looking up information on naturally feeding rabbits and everything seems to conflict. I was thinking of feeding a wild bird mix but I cannot find if white millet is safe for rabbits? It would be fed with mineral/salt blocks and hay. I know the other ingridents are safe (BOSS, wheat...

    Getting bunnies...help!

Rex furred rabbits are more susptable to sore hocks, as well as the heavy breeds (like flemish giants). I've only had one rabbit with sore hocks and it was my mini rex. Her feet got better once she moved into the colony.

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

Interesting! This is my email from the city asking about the legility of owning pigeons (show/meat breeds specifically). She attached the following document as well for the definition of livestock, though it doesn't mention fowl?

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

Thanks for replying to my rambling! Pigeons aren't considered fowl? I thought they were for some reason. The city code says nothing about pigeons specifically. Than again she also said ringneck doves are considered wild animals and thus cannot be kept outdoors as they would "become a nuisance"...

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

A thread on here says about one a day, or 5 per week. And yep! I think that's the best option. Hatching eggs aren't terribly expensive and once I have adult birds laying eggs it shouldn't be too hard to get some fertile ones for the incubator :) How many birds do you think would be good? The...

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

True! I think with the amount of space they take up with the amount of feed they eat it wouldn't be terribly or expensive hard to raise a couple dozen? Maybe I'm not being realistic but I doubt they would eat very much. I have a feeling that many would end up just being pets who occasionally...

    Getting bunnies...help!

I actually keep rabbits in a colony, and quite enjoy keeping them that way! Not all rabbits are built for it as you said, but it can be done with enough space and the right rabbits :)

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

I'd like to feed my dogs a homemade diet in the future (currently getting raw occasionally) and I'm apprehensive about buying meat from the grocery store (I dont like factory farms). Being able to raise meat/food animals would be an easier source of meat to aquire, and I would know how the...

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

I wonder if button quail would be worth it (for dogs only, I know there's hardly any meat after cleaning!). I've had my eye on them for pets anyways, and I have two 47.16 x 23.62 x 19.68 rabbit cages just sitting and collecting dust. The only reason I think they might be worth it is how little...

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

If anything I suppose I could write an exception letter for quail, that might go over better than pigeons (As we have many feral pigeons in town). Honestly I doubt they would enforce it as I know people have chickens and pigeons in town illegally, and at one point I had four dogs (without...

Unfortunatly quail or other gamebirds are not allowed. I would love to have coturnix otherwise.

    Rasing Doves for Meat?

Hello, I had been considering keeping pigeons for use as meat to feed us and the dogs however, we live in city limits. The city says that pigeons are not allowed as they are fowl, but doves are allowed. Is it worth it to keep doves (domestic ringnecks) for meat? Or should I try to write an...
