This is what the roost looks like (excuse the mess). Penny (with the frostbite) is the one lying down. She tends to stand on one foot and then lie down.
This is where she chose to go in the garage when we brought her in to heal in the winter. I'll have to look into treating infection if...
Yep, that's exactly what happened! They turned black and fell off. I just looked up gout and I don't think that's what it is. This doesn't seem that severe. This is a picture I took a while ago (with Ginger photbombing. xD)
Thanks for your response!
Hey there, so one of my hens got frostbite during the winter, unfortunately. This was a few months ago now. She lost two of her toes to it. I was hoping she would heal in the spring but it's summer now and she still limps quite heavily. She is very strong and, despite being tiny, is arguably top...
Haha, apparently. Today I let the girls out and my dad walked by with the dog, which startled them. Peaches (my faverolle) ended up in the coop by herself and didn't realize she could get out so she was just sitting in there crying. I opened the coop door so she could get out but that let a ray...
They are in their run all day. I let them out for an hour or so when it's warmer. They usually head inside on their own. They eat laying feed and lots of sunflower seeds. I'll have to watch and see if it's one chicken in particular and if so, separate her, but I think they're all kind of doing...
I'm thinking girl because of the white on her chest! My girl had some black primary feathers but she's one hundred percent female (and dumb as a board but I love her. xD)
Update: We washed her off and it's not bleeding, just very red. We put a big band aid on it. We'll see what happens when we put her back with the others, I just hope they don't peck off the band-aid.
Just today I happened to witness one of my hens violently rip out feathers from another one of hen's (Lily) butt. I then noticed that Lily's backside is all bloody. It was not like this yesterday. Then Gobbles has a bare butt, Al has a bit of blood but not much.
They've been going through a...
I know, poor thing. :( She started limping a couple weeks ago but her toes only started swelling this week. I think the main problem is that there was a bunch of snow and then it all melted, leaving a large puddle in the run. It's been humid out when it's warm because everything is meting and...
Hi, guys. Thank for for your input! I didn't think it was frostbite because I've never seen it on chickens' feet before, only wattles and comb. But, it has been an odd winter with it freezing, thawing, freezing, thawing. It's not unlikely that their feet were soaked and then froze. They have...
I'll post pictures later, but one of my ameraucana hens, Penny, recently started limping. I thought it was because she propelled herself through the snow and hit the stairs but then recently, her toes have gone a white colour and started swelling. I don't think it's bumblefoot; she doesn't have...
